  King Charles - unbelievable!
Posted by: Lilith7 - 19-01-2023, 02:31 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (8)

I can't recall anything like this ever happening before, but King Charles has just redirected 1 billion UK pounds from a crown estate wind farm to be used for the wider public good.
See - I told you lot this King was a good one! Smile

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023...ublic-good

"The King has asked for profits from a ┬ú1bn-a-year crown estate windfarm deal to be used for the ÔÇ£wider public goodÔÇØ rather than as a funding boost for the monarchy.
Under the taxpayer-funded sovereign grant, which is currently ┬ú86.3m a year, the King receives 25% of the crown estateÔÇÖs annual surplus, which includes an extra 10% for the refurbishment of Buckingham Palace.

Six new offshore wind energy lease agreements, announced by the crown estate on Thursday, have generated a major windfall for the estate, which would usually lead to a jump in the monarchyÔÇÖs official funding.
But the king, who highlighted the cost of living crisis in his Christmas message, has requested that the extra funds ÔÇ£be directed for wider public goodÔÇØ, instead of to the sovereign grant, at a time when many are facing financial hardship.
It is not clear as to the exact amount of taxpayer funding the king has passed up, but it is likely to be many millions.

The king used his first Christmas broadcast last month to sympathise with families struggling with the cost of living crisis and praise individuals, charities and faith groups supporting those in need.
He spoke about the ÔÇ£great anxiety and hardshipÔÇØ experienced by many trying to ÔÇ£pay their bills and keep their families fed and warmÔÇØ during his televised message, which featured footage of a food bank and other scenes of meals being distributed to the homeless."

Will be an interesting contest for the next leader of Labour and PM.  Will need to be significant to arrest the decline of the last 12 months.

Robinson not putting hat in the ring to be PM.

Michael "Toilet Seat" Woodhouse Shadow Leader of the House

Incredible.   Does Luxon think we've all forgotten about Woodhouse's disgusting persecution of Claire Curran?  How can someone so childish, vicious and vulgar be in line for a position where he is responsible for good order and civility in Parliament.

You thought that the shape of a rainbow is a bow, but you are wrong
Posted by: Roscoe - 19-01-2023, 10:11 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

You thought that a rainbow was the shape of a bow but all rainbows are a full circle but you never get to see the whole thing.

The light being reflected out of the water droplets goes in every direction which is why the rainbow is a full circle. To see a full rainbow you need to have water droplets far enough below the sunline so that they can be reflecting light back up from there. Sadly the earth is normally in the way we only have water droplets above us. ItÔÇÖs only when you are in a plane that you have water droplets in every different direction and you see the entire circular rainbow. And thatÔÇÖs why youÔÇÖll never find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, because there isnÔÇÖt one. Rainbows arenÔÇÖt bows - theyÔÇÖre round.

I knew that you would find that interesting

  Russell/Kororareka
Posted by: Kenj - 19-01-2023, 08:39 AM - Forum: PC World Chat - Replies (12)

I see the Maori are talking of changing the name of Russell to Kororareka. Interesting, they say Russell has no relevance to the place.

More interesting is when I tried to get a translation of Kororareka there were 2 different ones from 4 translation sites. Two sites said "Fun" and two said "Choke" Interested in the base from which the name was given a couple or more hundred years ago?

Question Hydrogen as a fuel is not so clean, green, or economical ?
Posted by: R2x1 - 19-01-2023, 08:12 AM - Forum: PC World Chat - Replies (6)

Alas, by this analysis, hydrogen proponents seem to be mostly producing hot air and CO2.
There's people on both sides of the "hydrogen as energy storage" discussion making a living out of the discussion, but not a lot of people are using hydrogen at their own expense. Huge subsidies are needed to produce and use the stuff which is currently very far from being the greenest alternative.

Bugger.

Huh
