Heart Mum jailed for killing her terminally ill 28 yo daughter
Posted by: crafters_corner - 05-11-2021, 11:31 AM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (5)

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/1...rs-in-jail

Does it outrage you, that this mother didn't get a longer sentence?
Does it make you sad, that she had to watch her daughter suffer?

"Walk a mile in my shoes".

"Judge not, lest ye be judged"

Lock her up and throw away the key?

I just find this sort of crime, so extremely sad. What pushes a mother to the brink of despair, that this is the only way out.

How can mothers be capable of killing their child/ren?

I think of the poor South Afrikan mum, who killed her 3 children. Mentally unstable? Had a breakdown? Having a bad day? Stress of settling into a new country and new culture??

You thoughts? Heart

Star Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?
Posted by: crafters_corner - 05-11-2021, 09:38 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (17)

Tick Tock....50 days to go.

I really don't enjoy Christmas. It's not the fun time for me, as it is for many others.

I buy about 3 gifts and that's it. Maybe the odd card to make and give.

Summer and Autumn for me thanks. I love the sun. It makes me happy. Big Grin

I hate the cold of Winter, and I hate the changeability of Spring. Dodgy

Question Adding images and other attachments to posts.
Posted by: king1 - 04-11-2021, 03:00 PM - Forum: Tips & Tricks - No Replies

Adding Photos
There are two methods of adding images to your posts, based on where the images are stored...

Online images - For example Facebook, Twitter, Blog or other websites

  • Use the 'Insert an Image' button in the full editor toolbar.┬á These are not limited by dimension or file size but you can optionally set a Width and Height for the image. Simply paste the URL of the online image and select insert.
  • Beware of linking to some┬álow profile┬áimage hosting websites. Should the website go belly up, the images will disappear...
Offline images - For example photos stored on your computer, laptop, pictures folder etc
  1. These images need to be uploaded to the messageboard.
  2. Find the Attachments section of the 'New Post' window or as a 'Full Reply', located immediately below the full editor.
  3. Either, tap/click the attachments area which will open a file explorer window on you device - or you can simply drag files from the file system onto the attachments area to upload.
  4. Select within the post where you want the attachment to show
  5.  Tap/click 'insert into post' .
Notes:
  • Make sure the cursor is located where┬áthe image is to be┬áinserted
  • All attachments have size limits depending on the file type ie JPG is 2MB ┬á
  • For security reasons only certain file types are allowed
  • Until we trust you┬á Big Grin┬á┬áonly Recruit level and above can add attachments i.e. the┬áTrusted user group.┬á
Resizing images before uploading.
For Windows:
there is an image resizer in the power toys package
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...ge-resizer

For Mac:
[Can someone please provide a quick and easy instruction or tool built into mac]

Other options:
  • There are any number of online resizers e.g┬áhttps://resizeimage.net/
  • If feasible you could take┬áphotos again with a reduced DPI or Megapixel level

Question Understanding Membership Levels and Roles
Posted by: king1 - 04-11-2021, 12:04 PM - Forum: Tips & Tricks - No Replies

We use a system of levels attached to your membership account to reflect membership status.  It is intended mainly as a bit of fun but it also  provides a simple indication of a members engagement with the forum and it's members.

The Member levels are ...

  • No Posts - N00b
  • 1 Post - Rookie
  • 10 Posts - Recruit
  • 25 Posts - Apprentice
  • 50 Posts - Prodigy
  • 100 Posts - Superstar
  • 250 Posts - Elder
  • 500 Posts - Expert
  • 750 Posts - Guru
  • 1000 Posts - Maestro
  • 2500 Posts - Myth
  • 5000 Posts - Legend
  • 7500 Posts - Grand Master
  • 10000 Posts - Jedi Master
  • 12500+ Posts - TBA

The main significance of these membership levels is the implied status.  Should these Member Level titles not be to your liking, you are able to customise this for yourself in the User Control Panel  after reaching the 'Recruit' user.

Behind the scenes, there are also membership groups.  Access permissions to various areas and functions of the messageboard are based upon membership groups. These are...
  • Guests
  • Registered Users
  • Trusted Users┬á
  • Moderators┬á
  • Super Moderators┬á
  • Administrators

These group roles are mainly self evident but note the following...
  • New signups become 'Registered'┬áusers.┬á
  • New signups are restricted from including┬áexternal links in posts and signatures, this is┬áto deter message board spam.
  • 'Registered'┬áusers┬áare┬áautomatically┬ápromoted to a 'Trusted' user┬áafter making 10 posts AND having a reputation of Zero or higher (consistent with the 'Recruit' level above).
  • The 'Trusted' user group┬áenables use of┬áattachments,┬áexternal┬álinks and┬ácustom titles for the member.┬á┬á

Please note: For users who have no interest in Opinion and Politics, or the Covid 19 forums, we are able to exclude these from your messageboard view if desired.  This is not user configurable but please ask one of the moderators or admin so it can be implemented.

  Google enforcing two factor Authentication
Posted by: king1 - 04-11-2021, 09:53 AM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (10)

Just saw an email today that google sent to a client, will be turning on Two Factor authentication by default as of Nov 9.
Will still be able to disable it for now apparently but will be permanent in due course.  Anyone else seen this?  Haven't had one for my account yet. I can imagine that is going to cause a few people some problems accessing accounts...

  The work table
Posted by: Praktica - 04-11-2021, 06:40 AM - Forum: Cameras - Replies (2)

Most of the cameras I buy require repairs, or at least a clean up and lubrication. I work at the end of the dining table - my house is not big enough for me to have a dedicated work space. The work surface and tools are put away when I finish.

The soldering iron is out, because the camera needs the flash shoe wire reattached.

Back when we owned a larger house, I had a dedicated workspace.

We came across this at the Riccarton Market 20 odd years ago, still hangs on the fence.

Question Embedded video in your posts
Posted by: king1 - 03-11-2021, 02:48 PM - Forum: Tips & Tricks - No Replies

Notes:

  • Adding Video is only available in selected forums, and only available from the full edit or new post modes
  • Currently videos are able to be added to your posts by linking to one on the internet.┬á┬á
  • Most common services are supported, including Facebook, Youtube, Vimeo and Twitch
To insert a video link
  1. Use the 'Insert a Video' button in the editor toolbar (next to the smiley)
  2. Choose the service hosting the video
  3. The URL to use:  Use the video URL! - for example: right click a Youtube video and choose 'Copy Video URL' - eg https://youtu.be/FVsbvFkhzY4.  The Youtube webpage URL will not work

Enjoy...
