This NZ made documentary series debuted on Prime last night with 2 more episodes scheduled to air in the coming weeks. An interesting and at times frightening watch and going by last night's effort we'll be watching the other two.

North shore schools in lockdown, possible firearms incident
Posted by: Lilith7 - 21-11-2022, 02:43 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (3)

Crikey; poor kids must be terrified. Not to mention their poor parents.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/multiple-n...V47PESPVE/

"Police and the Armed Offenders Squad are responding to what is understood to be a firearms incident on AucklandÔÇÖs North Shore this afternoon.

Police received reports of gunshots about 10.22am on Main Rd, Huapai. Police advised nearby schools to go into lockdown as a precaution.

Multiple schools are in lockdown as police descend on a nearby address, and would not release any pupils until advised by police.

Chelsea Primary School, Birkdale Intermediate School, Beach Haven Primary School, Birkdale North Primary and Verran Primary School are also now in lockdown.
ÔÇ£Please remain in your cars if you are at the school with doors locked. The purpose of a lockdown is to ensure the immediate safety of students, staff and visitors,ÔÇØ the Verran Primary School shared on Facebook."

Within the next decade in fact. Mainly because a base there could be needed for further scientific missions.

I suppose its possible, but when the expense is considered there are far more important things we could use that funding for. Ending world poverty would be a good start, & once our world has become a better & fairer place then we could look again at space exploration.

  Another ode for Baron Luxon

Big Grin Rolleyes

Another Ode for .. Baron Luxon

Bard Billot on the Baron

Fresh Ideas

High on the twelfth floor

of his air-conditioned palace,

Baron Luxon stares down upon

the mean streets of the City of Auk.

Small fires burn as the Raiders of

whoop it up in the MerchantÔÇÖs Quarter.

Baron Luxon stares some more.

High on the twelfth floor
of his air-conditioned palace,
Baron Luxon stares down upon
the mean streets of the City of Auk.

Small fires burn as the Raiders of Ram
whoop it up in the MerchantÔÇÖs Quarter.
Baron Luxon stares some more.
He scratches his nose.

There is a strange, persistent sense
of pressure building inside his head.

An inchoate concept is forming.
Like an egg hatching, a small feathery
object pops out into the world.
It is an idea.
The Baron springs into action
and summons his Grand Council,
who file into the High Hall
and tuck into some fine grapes
and Thai prawn salad with Chili
and Lime Sauce.
IÔÇÖve had a fresh idea, he says.
All is silent
apart from the crunching of Thai prawns.

ItÔÇÖs edgy, original and innovative,
and no one has ever thought of it before,
says the Baron confidently.
There is a long expectant silence
as the Ministers stare at
the BaronÔÇÖs smooth dome in anticipation.
ItÔÇÖs called┬áGet Tough On The Bandits,
says the Baron.
The Council sighs and looks around
and starts talking amongst themselves.
We could try the leg irons?
proposes beady eyed Simeon ÔÇ£Old TestamentÔÇØ Brown.
Lady Stanford faints;
and has to be revived with smelling salts.

The Baron wonders to himself if she has the stomach
to be Minister of Flayings and Spikings.
Why donÔÇÖt we do the olÔÇÖ "meat tenderiser",
chuckles Sir Lancelot of Uffindell,
swinging a bed leg enthusiastically.
Press gang them into the Navy!
yells Sheriff "Ironballs" Mitchell.
The Baron looks down at the table.
I think we need to just keep it simple, he says:
Flogging, Drawing and Quartering,
and Heads on Spikes at the City Gates.
And the Grand Council breaks
into wild cheers and applause,
for a new idea like this will certainly
achieve its goal, whatever that might be.
Meanwhile, many leagues distant
from the High Hall and the leftover Thai Prawns
being emptied into the slop bin,
in the sad smoky tenements of the Land of Auk,
a dog barks, a baby cries, and by a mouldy motel,
a young bandit plays in the carpark with his toy gun.

  AdBlock not working
Posted by: harm_less - 19-11-2022, 09:26 AM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (5)

Turned on my lappy this morning to find that AdBlock doesn't seem to be working and also that every time I change over to my emails (viewed using Thunderbird) the (Firefox) browser closes so I have to reopen the sites I was previously viewing.

Going to the Firefox Add-ons to reinstall AdBlock results in them telling me that the add-on I'm trying to install is corrupted so can't be installed???

Selling vehicle to dealer - Payment Question
Posted by: Corky - 18-11-2022, 08:15 AM - Forum: Motoring - Replies (3)

Hello

I have agreed on a price to sell a near new vehicle to a Christchurch dealer. I paid cash for the vehicle it is 100% owned by me with no third party interests and it is straight sell not a trade in. When I asked the dealer how payment is made, he said bring in my bank account number and the money will be direct credited the next day.
My question is: is this standard operating procedure - as I would have signed my vehicle over with keys etc and then 100% trust that the dealership will honour the agreement. Or should I at the very least see a transfer receipt that the money has been paid through before I sign the agreement at their dealership with the vehicle onsite?

Cheers.
