Just give the child the "unvaxxed" blood and move on!
Posted by: C_T_Russell - 02-12-2022, 09:45 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (33)

This is getting bloody ridiculous!
https://www.1news.co.nz/2022/11/30/paren...-in-court/

Doesnt matter how nutty the whole thing sounds, this is a childs life here and we are seeing this case go through the courts, meanwhile this childs life is in limbo.

Ironically the Jehovahs Witnesses get to receive their medical care of "their" choice and the hospitals are more than happy to perform the same kind of surgeries with NO blood and risk the childs death!
When I was in the Jehovahs Witness cult, it was quite common to hear stories about members having such operations.
I know of 2 babies that received open heart surgery and one story made national headlines.
The JW's often like using these positive stories for publicity too.
It is very rare in NZ for JW cases to go to court over refusing blood.

Whats going on here? What is the big deal if they want to choose their blood donors?

There seems no limit to the idiocy of some. Rolleyes Dodgy
Lucky he didn't manage it, he'd likely have caused deaths, the damn fool.

"Graham Philip, the first person in New Zealand history to be charged with and plead guilty to sabotage, attempted to bring down the power grid across the entire North Island in protest against the Covid-19 restrictions and vaccine mandate.

It can also be reported that one act of sabotage resulted in a fire.
Crown prosecutor Amanda Gordon told the court Philip had shown ÔÇ£no remorse for his offendingÔÇØ.
ÔÇ£ThatÔÇÖs very clear from the pre-sentence report.ÔÇØ
She also said it was ÔÇ£concerningÔÇØ he believed his actions would not have caused harm.
PhilipÔÇÖs lawyer Bill Nabney said his client was inspired to act by the vaccine mandate, ÔÇ£a matter that concerned him greatlyÔÇØ.
He said Philip believed ÔÇ£the view of those who oppose Government actions werenÔÇÖt being heard ... Something needed to be doneÔÇØ.

Inside child poverty revisited, Bryan Bruce
Posted by: Lilith7 - 30-11-2022, 10:41 AM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (2)

While there have been some improvements, they've happened at a snail's pace & haven't been applied everywhere. Perhaps changing our society to fairer one needs to happen at the same brutal pace that Neo Liberalism was imposed here.

It's shameful that there are kids going hungry, that there are parents going without to feed their kids, that we have homeless people - but what's far worse is that we have even now, some who think that's perfectly fine.
Christopher Luxon recently attempting to lay the blame solely on parents makes it very, very clear that there are some people who are well & truly out of touch & who do not want to see the reality if that means that it might disturb their comfortable lifestyle.

"Children are bearing the brunt of entrenched inequality in New Zealand.
Bryan BruceÔÇÖs documentaryÔÇÖs Inside Child Poverty Revisited shown last night on TV3 shows that while there have been some improvements in the 11 years since his first documentary on the issue, little has been done to dismantle the system that enables child poverty says CPAG spokesperson, Susan St John.
The documentary showed that too many children are still going hungry, living in insecure, crowded accommodation and suffering the diseases of poverty. Meanwhile bank profits have soared, yet so too has the need for food banks.
Bruce accused New Zealanders of doubling down on the economics of selfishness despite claiming they wanted a fairer society. He was especially critical of tax policies that rewarded investors in the housing market and the discriminatory nature of child-tax credits for those on low incomes.
"ItÔÇÖs why we need urgent action on Working for Families (WFF)," says St John, interviewed in 2011 and again in 2022 about CPAGÔÇÖs legal case challenging the harmful discrimination against the poorest children.
"WFF needs to be far more generous and given in full to all low-income families. Payments must be tied to wages and prices just as New Zealand Super is and low-income earners should not be penalized by severe abatements while trying to earn their way out of poverty."

https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/tv...ocumentary

"Bruce, a television presenter and documentary maker who featured on PrimeÔÇÖs A Question Of Justice, mentions the Child Poverty Reduction Act ÔÇô something which didnÔÇÖt exist in 2011. This piece of legislation was passed in late 2018.
Bruce talks about the ActÔÇÖs targets as set by the government.
ÔÇ£They (the government) may want to say that theyÔÇÖve met the targets on all of the things that theyÔÇÖve set,ÔÇØ he says.
ÔÇ£But if youÔÇÖre like me and you go out and you meet people, and you visit people who are in motels and you meet people who have decided to go back to whenua and live basically in portacabins and basically dig toilets for themselves and things, you realise very soon that we havenÔÇÖt made a lot of progress.ÔÇØ
On the flip side, some things have improved in the past 11 years. GP visits, for instance, are free for children aged 13 and under.
ÔÇ£Hopefully it will go to under 18s. But thatÔÇÖs (free GP visits for the under 14s) a good thing. WeÔÇÖve done that,ÔÇØ says Bruce.

ÔÇ£Yes, we have warmed up some houses and weÔÇÖve done a few other things but the reality is housing and food are worse now than they were, in my view.
ÔÇ£Those are the two major things that affect the wellbeing of children the most.ÔÇØ
He mentions the property market.
ÔÇ£We have got a problem in that a lot of New Zealanders have got a vested interest in the value of their properties,ÔÇØ says Bruce.
ÔÇ£So, you know, there are millions of dollars of untaxed wealth. That could go into building houses and feeding our kids.ÔÇØ

ÔÇ£We have neoliberal economics which is the politics of selfishness, the economics of selfishness,ÔÇØ he says. ÔÇ£It isnÔÇÖt the New Zealand I grew up in."

ÔÇ£I talked about my own family in the programme in that my mum was a factory worker and my dad was a postman and we arrived from the slums of Edinburgh in the early 50s.
ÔÇ£But within five years, my parents had bought a house in Spreydon (Christchurch) and they did it because the government controlled the mortgage market and lent the money to my parents and to the baby boom generation at three per cent for 40 years.
ÔÇ£So we all got a house and we all got fed.ÔÇØ

With child poverty an issue that doesnÔÇÖt seem to be disappearing from the headlines, what would Bruce like to see changing? If he could wave a magic wand, what would he do?
ÔÇ£I would try to convince people that we should be a ÔÇÿweÔÇÖ society and not a ÔÇÿmeÔÇÖ society,ÔÇØ he says."

  Windows 11 mail - imap ?
Posted by: cookee_nz - 29-11-2022, 01:52 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (2)

Anyone had any success setting up the Windows 11 default basic Mail program to work with Xtra, as imap?

Assisting my sister with her Laptop I can get imap to work using Outlook (2010) on the same Laptop so I know the account settings etc are all good.  I've set the various servers and ports correctly but it just refuses to sync.

While Outlook is ok, it's really overkill for her needs and I'm trying to keep it simple as possible.  Using imap to work best with her mobile phone.

But, I also had the same issue on my own Desktop PC, I normally use Thunderbird but tried setting up Mail to help with the troubleshooting, doesn't work on that either.  Gotta be something in the Xtra settings?

https://www.spark.co.nz/help/get-more/xt...ail-setup/

I'm sure I've tried everything so really interested in hearing from anyone who has actually got it working rather than "have you tried this", believe me I've gone full circle with this   Huh

TIA

Cookee

Electoral Commission invites feedback on Brian Tamaki-launched Freedoms NZ party name
The public is being invited to provide feedback as the Freedoms NZ party attempts to register with the Electoral Commission.
To register, a party must have an acceptable name. This means it cannot be offensive or indecent, likely to confuse or mislead voters, not be excessively long or not refer to an honour or title.

Perhaps we can call it the Tamaki's slush fund party
