New Alzheimer's drug

Looks promising so far, & slows decline.
https://www.bbc.com/news/health-66221116
"A new drug, donanemab, is being hailed as a turning point in the fight against Alzheimer's, after a global trial confirms it slows cognitive decline.
The antibody medicine helps in the early stages of the disease by clearing a protein that builds up in the brains of people with this type of dementia.
Although not a cure, charities say the results in the journal JAMA mark a new era where Alzheimer's can be treated.
The UK's drugs watchdog has started assessing it for possible NHS use.
The drug works in Alzheimer's disease, not in other types of dementia, such as vascular dementia.
Mike Colley, who is 80, is one of only a few dozen patients in the UK to take part in the global trial. He and his family spoke exclusively with the BBC.
Mike gets an infusion each month at a clinic in London and says he is "one of the luckiest people you'll ever meet".
Although extremely promising, these drugs are not risk-free treatments.
Brain swelling was a common side-effect in up to a third of patients in the donanemab trial. For most, this resolved without causing symptoms. However, two volunteers, and possibly a third, died as a result of dangerous swelling in the brain."

$330,000 Judder bars according to Luxon..

Apparently this is what it costs to install judder bars, not sure where he gets his source from for that cost, also unsure if thats the cost to do a street or per judder bar, but either way thats pretty expensive.
All they are is a few cubes of hotmix, how much does that stuff cost per cube I wonder?
He says he will redirect that money to fix the potholes on our roads, but the cost to fix all our potholes would still cost far more than what judder bars cost, even at that price.
They were saying on the radio that its going to take 10 years to fix them all. Cant say potholes are exactly anything new to NZ, they almost seem to be part of our culture, but they are definitely worse than in the past.

Perhaps, but it may never be able to be proved.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/uk/3009287...al-records
"A former police volunteer claims to have discovered the identity of the figure behind some of the most shocking crimes in British history, unmasking the 19th-century murderer who terrorised the nation as Jack the Ripper.
Sarah Bax Horton ÔÇô whose great-great-grandfather was a policeman at the heart of the Ripper investigation ÔÇô has unearthed compelling evidence that matches witness descriptions of the man┬áseen with female victims┬áshortly before they were stabbed to death in 1888 in the East End of London.
Her detective work has led her to Hyam Hyams, who lived in an area at the centre of the murders and who, as a cigar-maker, knew how to use a knife. He was an epileptic and an alcoholic who was in and out of mental asylums, his condition worsening after he was injured in an accident and unable to work. He repeatedly assaulted his wife, paranoid that she was cheating on him, and was eventually arrested after he attacked her and his mother with ÔÇ£a chopperÔÇØ.
Significantly, Bax Horton gained access to his medical records and discovered dramatic details. She told The Telegraph: ÔÇ£For the first time in history, Jack the Ripper can be identified as Hyam Hyams using distinctive physical characteristics.ÔÇØ
Witnesses described a man in his mid-30s with a stiff arm and an irregular gait with bent knees, and Bax Horton discovered that the medical notes of Hyams ÔÇô who was 35 in 1888 ÔÇô recorded an injury that left him unable to ÔÇ£bend or extendÔÇØ his left arm as well as an irregular gait and an inability to straighten his knees, with asymmetric foot dragging. He also had the most severe form of epilepsy, with regular seizures."

Oh joy.
He really is one of a kind, virtually indestructible politically apparently. He's now doing his best to cotton on to the loony tunes brigade to some degree while being very, very careful not to venture too far into their territory. Those who have theories about Covid, trans people, & the 'Voices for Freedom movement'
The article asks if he can "ride a freedom wave to parliament" - I sincerely hope NOT.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politic...parliament
"Over 30 minutes, Peters was asked about censorship of people who dispute climate change; the WEF; the ÔÇ£propagandaÔÇØ of the mainstream media; vaccine mandates; what a woman is; how to ÔÇ£bring democratic society backÔÇØ.
He was asked traditional questions at this campaign event, too ÔÇô about the cost of living, coalition agreements, and crime. These core issues were the main subject of his speech and were consistent with New Zealand FirstÔÇÖs policies.
But compared to previous meetings, they were fewer: Some in the audience had other issues on their minds.
In the early stages of his 17th general election campaign, Winston Peters has drawn growing interest from the self-proclaimed ÔÇ£freedomÔÇØ movement.
These are people with views that range from rejecting Covid-19 vaccines, dismissing the scientific consensus of climate change, and emphasising what they believe to be the sinister influence of global institutions like the WEF and the WHO."

Lost PC sound to Tv

My Media PC (Asus Sabertooth Z77) no longer plays sound on my Sony Bravia TV. It has recognized the TV address for quite sometime but suddenly, although I can get the picture, I canÔÇÖt get sound. I have checked the sound settings on the PC but the TV doesnÔÇÖt show up. I have tried all methods to get it but canÔÇÖt get sound. Now, I have tried another PC to the TV and that has no problems with sound so the TV settings are correct. The HDMI cable has not been changed so that seems OK.
I have connected the suspect PC to my PC monitor and again cannot find the monitor in the Settings although a sound cable from the PC to the monitor and separate speakers┬áwill give me sound. I removed the suspect PC's┬áGTX560 GPU and connected to the HDMI port from the m/b ÔÇô same result i.e. no sound.
The Bravia TV has no Sound jack to input sound, it relies on either USB or HDMI inputs. I am of a mind that the suspect m/b has developed some fault that does not allow sound to be transmitted to the TV. Other than a sound problem the M/b works well and I do not want to dump it. Does anyone have any ideas I can follow?

Good grief - in the 21st cemetery, that this can happen is appalling.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/europe/300...oping-rule
"Italians have reacted with outrage after a 66-year-old school cleaner escaped punishment for groping a female pupil because it ÔÇ£only lasted about ten secondsÔÇØ.
When she confronted him, he responded: ÔÇ£Come on darling, you know IÔÇÖm only joking,ÔÇØ according to other students who witnessed the incident, which happened at a high school in┬áRome┬áin April last year.
The school caretaker was charged with sexual assault and sent to trial. Prosecutors had called for a sentence of three and a half years in prison.
His defence, that the whole thing was a playful joke, ÔÇ£appears convincingÔÇØ, judges ruled, deciding to acquit Avola of the sexual assault charge.
The courtÔÇÖs ruling carried a stark message for the schoolgirl, the columnist wrote in La Stampa: ÔÇ£She should have had a better sense of humour.ÔÇØ
For many critics, the case reflects the casual sexism and objectification of young women that is still widespread in Italy."
