  Data on for texts
Posted by: allblack - 04-12-2023, 05:37 PM - Forum: PC World Chat - Replies (6)

Can anyone explain to me why I only get certain txts when I trurn my data on?

I'm a numpty but even I know that SMS doesn't use data, so this has me buggered. They're not MMS either.

I can't see any connection between those that need data and those that don't.

I've had 021, 022 and 027 come thru as per SOP, and the same only coming thru with data turned on, though different numbers.

This is a step in the right direction, didn't even know about this getting built but have heard about plans for other ones around the country.
I'm assuming it will have a giant tesla battery installed but might be something they add later.

He's been granted bail but not until Tuesday.

"A Te Whatu Ora worker charged over illegally accessing personal information on work databases has been granted bail but not until 1pm on Tuesday.

Barry Young - who is also sometimes known as Winston Smith and appears in videos with conspiracy theorist Liz Gunn - appeared before Wellington District Court judge Andrew Nicholls on Monday
He faces one charge of dishonestly accessing Te Whatu Ora databases. The charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years jail.
He has not pleaded to the charge.

The court was packed with people for his appearance. They all stood and applauded as Young was brought out of the cells into the court at 10am but were quiet for the hearing in the afternoon.
Under the Bail Act, media are prevented from publishing the details of the bail hearing ÔÇô other than the outcome and any conditions imposed.
Te Whatu Ora have confirmed Young remains an employee while an employment investigation is under way but has had no access to any systems or data since the employer found out about the breach on Thursday, Nov 30.
He has worked for them since 2018 according to his Linkedin page as a senior database administrator."

Axing sexuality, relationship education guidelines a huge mistake
Posted by: Lilith7 - 01-12-2023, 02:52 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (23)

It does depend on what is altered or left out but when you look at what's happened in America this is quite worrying.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibFzELEU...MM&index=9

"The lead writer of the sexuality and relationship education guidelines is alarmed the new government has agreed to remove them.
The deal comes under National's coalition deal with New Zealand First, which campaigned on removing "gender ideology" from the curriculum.
Education professor Katie Fitzpatrick said removing the sexuality and relationship guidelines for schools was a backwards step.
"I think that would be a huge mistake. It would be really against what young people want. We've had three petitions to Parliament in the last seven years from young people advocating for better relationships and sexuality education in schools."

Fitzpatrick led the team which wrote the guidelines that were introduced in 2020 by NZ First MP and associate education minister at the time Tracey Martin.
There are two documents, one for Year 1 to 8 and another for Year 9 to 13.
She said they reflected huge progress in education around consent, inclusion and shifting societal norms.

There was a strong focus on teaching young people to think critically about social media, pornography and sexual content online, she said.
"There's a lot of information and messages about relationships, sexuality, body, gender and I think schools can really help young people engage with that."
Fitzpatrick said it was unclear from the coalition documents what the guidelines would be replaced with.

But she believed removing them would send a strong signal to schools to stop teaching about sexuality and relationships.
"We need to make sure that we're not going back to some sort of regressive form of schooling which looks to repress knowledge about health and sexuality for young people."

And it isn't just in the USA. Right winger people seem deeply disturbed by the idea of people being better informed about human sexuality.

Russia bans 'gay propaganda' - possibly as a result of Putin being tucked up with the Russian orthodox church.

  Backups
Posted by: smithie38 - 01-12-2023, 01:29 PM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (6)

I have  read that in 2020 Microsoft decided to pull the plug on the Windows 7 Back up and Restore tool, and  it will  likely  be removed in a future Windows Update.  Apparently  Microsoft recommend using a third-party utilities to back up instead. As Macruim Reflect is no longer free, can anyone recommend a good free Back up utility that I can use.

Thanks

I thought my MB is doing well,13 years and not even the battery has needed replacing yet, but this morning my HDD died.

The backup thankfully, but when replacing it, I noted the date:
2009. 14 years so that was the oldest piece of hardware I had.

A Seagate sata. Still can't complain about that lifespan, can we?

that I have to wait for Spark to release the One UI update for my Samsung phone?

Or does it come via somewhere else?

I bought a S23FE last week and I see that OneUI 6.0 is out but I have 5.1, and I've got FOMO like real bad.
