  The Nicola Willis budget
Posted by: Lilith7 - 20-12-2023, 01:06 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (26)

What joys await us...

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politic...ons-worsen

[b]"Finance Minister Nicola Willis has found nearly $7.5 billion worth of public savings, but faces tough decisions as she seeks to balance the Treasury books and deliver tax relief amid a worsening economic picture with higher costs to keep the lights on in the next 12 months.  [/b]

Willis revealed her mini-Budget alongside the TreasuryÔÇÖs half year economic and fiscal update in Wellington, outlining a ÔÇ£shrunkenÔÇØ surplus, bigger borrowing requirements and greater fiscal risks such as those around infrastructure delivery and cyclone recovery, natural disasters and climate change.┬á

[b]She will reveal the plan for tax relief in the May budget, but promised to ÔÇ£restore a fairer balanceÔÇØ in the government books, reform the public finance act, and continue a savings drive in the public sector, on Wednesday.[/b]

ÔÇ£Tax reduction is coming but first we have to do the work. We have made a downpayment - finding $7.5b already,ÔÇØ she said.┬á

She said people wouldnÔÇÖt get a ÔÇ£tax cut for ChristmasÔÇØ but would get one next year, along with stronger fiscal management."┬á

Ah promises, promises...if I was a betting woman I'd be willing to put money on the only 'fair' oiutcome being for those already well off. And - 'strong fiscal management?'
What exactly does that mean??

Clamping down on anything & everything just to have more funds for govt projects, at the expense of everything else such as  health, housing, & welfare?

God to a hungry child

I didnÔÇÖt make this world for you
You didnÔÇÖt buy any stocks in my
railroad
You didnÔÇÖt invest in my
Corporation
Where are your shares in Standard
Oil?
I made the world for the rich
And the will-be-rich
And the have-always-been-rich
Not for you
Hungry child.

Windows 11 upgrade for unsupported hardware
Posted by: king1 - 19-12-2023, 10:18 AM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (2)

From here
https://www.pcworld.com/article/2103104/...ckout.html

you can run the installation setup exe from a command prompt as such

Code:
setup /product server

apparently it looks like it is installing windows server but ends up on the correct home/pro version, and ignores the TPM/CPU requirements

Because it uses the setup exe I guess this only works when using a flash drive and not from the installation assistant... Going to try this shortly...

  Keyboard letters give different outputs
Posted by: nzoomed - 18-12-2023, 06:48 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (11)

Personally I think its PEBKAC but this person never has had any issues before.
I thought that the keyboard layout may have been messed up, but everything checks out.
To top it off they asked me to replace the laptop as they wanted to upgrade it regardless.
And the new laptop is doing the same thing (for the user)
I've looked at it and can't see anything wrong.
Still don't know what apps the user experienced this issue with, but all I transferred over from the old computer was some documents and photos and reinstalled office 365.
Seems pretty coincidental to me that 2 separate computers would do the same thing.
Apparently pressing a full stop gives the letter y and rebooting fixed it.

Interested to hear if anyone else has heard of something similar.
Either way, I can't fix something that I've been so far unable to replicate!

Luxon learns te Reo courtesy of our taxes but wants everyone else to pay for it thems

The hypocrisy of our politicians is stunning.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politic...arn-te-reo

[b]"Luxon defends taxpayer-funded te reo lessons, after his own criticism [/b]
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says it is important for public officials to have skills in te reo, after criticising other public service bosses for funding te reo lessons.

Luxon said people wanting to learn te reo should "pay for it themselves" - but his office has confirmed it paid for his te reo lessons.

A spokesperson for the prime minister defended the taxpayer-funded lessons as a completely appropriate use of funding - which appears to be at odds with previous statements from Luxon.

"In the real world outside of Wellington and outside the bubble of MPs, people who want to learn te reo or want to learn any other education actually pay for it themselves," Luxon said, earlier.

This morning, in a statement, a spokesperson confirmed the taxpayer-funded budget of the Leader of the Opposition's office paid for Luxon's te reo lessons.

The spokesperson said they were not aware of any other National MPs using the Opposition budget to learn te reo M─üori."

No doubt there are eager beaver journalists checking that even now.... Rolleyes Big Grin

He's basically saying that taxpayers paying for his lessons is perfectly alright but everyone else can pay for it themselves, & too bad if they can't afford it.

  Short sighted govt
Posted by: Lilith7 - 16-12-2023, 06:24 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (25)

They've pulled back on developing walkways & cycleways - idiocy in these times. It seems they're not bothered about the effect on their & our children, grandchildren & their descendants.
We - & every other country in the world - desperately need politicians with the ability to take a long term view, preferably before the planet is completely stuffed.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/504...initatives

"The new government's Transport Minister has pulled the brakes on dozens of council projects designed to encourage cycling, walking and use of public transport across the country, sparking confusion in local authority ranks and fury amongst cycling advocates.
In a letter to local authorities Simeon Brown said he told the New Zealand Transport Authority (Waka Kotahi) to halt work on cycling and walking initiatives.
"I understand that some local authorities have been developing programmes with NZTA and other stakeholders to reduce vehicle kilometres travelled (VKT) by the light vehicle fleet, using funding from the Climate Emergency Response Fund.

"I have given notice to NZTA to end its work on these programmes, and to not commit any further funding to local authorities (beyond existing contractual obligations) to develop these programmes. Thank you for your understanding as we work through these changes."

VKT programmes are designed to reduce reliance on cars, and support people to walk, cycle and use public transport.

Brown was not available for an interview, but in a statement said the cycling and walking initiatives were a waste of time and money."

  Logi Overlay error
Posted by: Galaxy01 - 15-12-2023, 03:28 PM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (1)

I am experiencing this error recently when shutting down my PC:

"Hidden Window: Logi Overlay.exe .. Application Error.  "   and, it prevents me from shutting down my PC.

It happens quite often but not always.   I think it's the software for the Logitech device, my MX Master 3 mouse.  There was a software update recently.
It never happened before the update.

You reckon I can uninstall the software completely?

  Small problem with Google Chat
Posted by: Roscoe - 15-12-2023, 01:08 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (1)

I have been using Google Chat for some time now and I have found that I can usually compose about 20 lines until I cannot enter any more and so I send that and start the next message. That is usually adequate for what I want to say but just recently it has only been possible to do 3 lines. This problem seems to have started since they introduced their new logo. But it seems to be a problem just with me as messages I receive have many lines, 2 to 3 times as much as I have been used to.
The temporary solution that I have found - about 3 lines - is manageable but not very convenient so I was hoping that someone could advise me how to remedy the problem.
Thank you in anticipation.
