  Whoosh around town

An idea to deal with heavy traffic, pods suspended above streets. It could perhaps work, they have similar things in some countries.
An American firm is currently funding one in Queenstown, should be interesting to see how it goes. I wonder if they'd also work in Auckland, perhaps as an alternative to the harbour bridge.

"Slashing red tape?" not so much...

It seems that the ministry set up to slash red tape has so far spent more than $400,000 on contractors in six months...

The department is paying its staff an average of more than $150,000 & would eventually employ more than 90 people.... Rolleyes

  PC build won't start.
Posted by: Bryan - 10-09-2024, 07:45 AM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (23)

I have built a PC and thought I had done so correctly. Upon start up, all fans work and system lights come on. I used an 8GB Ram from another PC and know it is OK. I have tried it in all 4 slots!
When I power on, I get a message that there is no signal getting through to the monitor. All I am getting is a periodic clunk from the optical drive. I have put a WIN 11 OS DVD in the Optical drive and it is not being read. Consequently, the fail is before BIOS. Has anyone ever struck this problem before?

  Muslim schools in lockdown, Auckland
Posted by: Lilith7 - 09-09-2024, 03:54 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (7)

What the hell did this govt would think was likely to happen, once they removed the funding, fgs. Open season for racist idiots... Dodgy Angry

Two schools have had to go into lockdown after receiving threatening videos, with another on resricted access. The video shows a man showing guns in a car while randomly shooting & appears to be a deliberate threat against Muslims.

  Chrome externsions
Posted by: king1 - 09-09-2024, 09:59 AM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (8)

with the upcoming removal of manifest V2 extensions,  I now have a list of 20 or so extensions under the heading

Quote:These extensions may soon no longer be supported - Remove or replace them with similar extensions from the Chrome Web Store

I'm thinking not much point in staying with Chrome now - when I check for alternatives via the provided link all the really useful ones like cookie/notice blockers, autoplay stoppers etc, just list generic extensions that aren't really alternatives at all...

Ublock has a lite version available but it looks like it's been neutered, feature wise

What to do? Some of them I won't miss but there are a few in the can't really live without category...

Firefox is looking rather appealing now...

  Cell phone WiFi
Posted by: brucem - 08-09-2024, 11:05 AM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (1)

I have recently bought a Moto G04 smart phone to replace my stolen dumb phone ( a Nokia 3310).  I have it connected to our Fritzbox router.  I now have my wife's phone book on my phone.  Some of the people I don't even know.  I would like to delete those that I don't want, but can I do this without deleting them from my wife's phone ( a move that could be fatal!)?  How do I do this?
