So my computer is behaving strange after upgrading my SSD...
Posted by: nzoomed - 12-11-2021, 10:13 AM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (5)

Seems to be OK, for the time being but my computer would just  go to a blank screen when it was supposed to go into sleep mode after 30mins.
Except only it wasnt going into sleep mode at all and was in some sort of frozen state, nothing would wake it up, and just a single short press of the power button without holding it in for 4 seconds would cause it to turn off immediately.

Then if i went to turn back on the computer, it would not boot up at all and after the BIOS had loaded it just went blank again.
If went into the boot menu and select the UEFI boot partition on the SSD, it would boot up fine again, until next time round.
Seemed to be messing up the boot order on the BIOS settings too, I have to keep moving it back around, but it reverts back after it crashes.

Weird thing is it seems OK for the time being, but will know after i leave this running for a few hours, last night it appeared to go into sleep fine.

Its a brand new samsung 980 pro that ive replaced my old 960 pro with thats double the size. Seems to run faster and everything else, so hopefully its OK.
I might check if there is a firmware update for the drive.

  ICU sleeping
Posted by: yousnoozeyoulose - 12-11-2021, 08:34 AM - Forum: Covid-19 - Replies (3)

Quite like this rule used by the Austrian government. Would be good here, especially with our low number of ICU beds...

"Under an incremental government plan agreed in September, once 30% of intensive-care beds are occupied by patients with Covid, people not vaccinated against the coronavirus will be placed under lockdown, with restrictions on their daily movements. The current level is 20% and rising fast." - taken from The Guardian

Shocked Robert Hart shot dead but marked as covid death
Posted by: nzoomed - 11-11-2021, 09:43 PM - Forum: Covid-19 - Replies (5)

I would be following this very closely if I were you.

https://www.1news.co.nz/2021/11/11/new-l...-covid-19/

I think the whole thing is a joke and dont understand the WHO reasoning.
Did this person have acute symptoms of covid prior to being shot? Shouldnt this be clear cut enough to even bother with any "investigation"?
I cant find anything to back this up, but it appears they felt he was linked to a covid case, so the body was tested anyway.
I know of a similar case from a friend in the USA where this particular person died in a car accident, but has been marked as a covid death and as a result does not qualify for a life insurance payout.

  Countdown Bricks promotion
Posted by: Outsider - 11-11-2021, 01:56 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

Has anyone received any Countdown Bricks yet?
I shop online and 2 weeks running ordered the bricks - should have been entitled to 7 each week but order came with "Countdown Bricks Out of stock" on the packing slip.

They shouldn't be Out of Stock already surely, as the promotion only started on 4 November.
If you are getting them please let me know which stores have them. Thanks.

  Pc Bullshit

So here's my one for the day:

"Pregnant people"

Wtf is that?  The ONLY creature who can get pregnant is a female WOMAN.  As far as I'm aware.

Anyone also got a bit of 'Pc' crap they'd like to share?

It's here! Help choose a *new name* for the messageboard...
Posted by: king1 - 11-11-2021, 07:54 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (71)

Morning All...

This poll is open to any registered user. If you know other users please encourage them to check in here and vote.

We have a great list of user submitted names - your mission is to choose your THREE favourites.

TMMB admin will then select the final from those three.
(We opted for this approach to retain a measure of control over the final outcome)

The more votes we get the better the poll will be...

Remember we are looking for...
- Simple, catchy and easy to remember.
- essentially a brand name.

Think about how it would sound in a sentence if you were telling someone about it...

Many thanks...

TMMB New Name POLL Coming Soon
Posted by: king1 - 10-11-2021, 10:14 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

We are getting close to the poll for our new message board name.  It will likely be run over this coming long weekend, so make sure you drop by - the more votes we get the better the result will be.

The format will most likely be a poll of all users which will select the top three candidate names.  After which the owner/admin/moderators will select the final name.

Thanks for being a part of this, we appreciate your input...

  Trademe community closing down

The Trademe message boards are closing on the 15th, could be a good chance to let people know about TMMB before it does!

Definitely not advocating spamming, but a few sneaky plugs can't hurt Wink

Yay, more free-to-air rubbish to not watch!
Posted by: yousnoozeyoulose - 10-11-2021, 08:03 PM - Forum: Movies & TV - Replies (2)

"Discovery has announced it will launch two new free-to-air channels, Gusto and Rush, as well as a new Newshub Live at 8pm bulletin and AM Early show in 2022.

The news was unveiled as part of programming plans that will see Discovery, which owns Newshub, increase its local content by 70 percent as well as expanding its news offerings and transforming its on demand service, ThreeNow.

New Zealand's fourth primary free-to-air channel Gusto will launch in March 2022, taking over from the former Choice TV. The channel will air local and international titles such as Changing Rooms UK and Kiwi production Great Southern Truckers, as well as the new Newshub Live at 8pm bulletin."

The oily innards of a camera.
Posted by: Praktica - 10-11-2021, 02:09 PM - Forum: Cameras - Replies (10)

I received this camera today , a Kowaflex. This is a single lens reflex camera, with a shutter in the lens, made in 1960. This type of camera tends to be unreliable, and cameras made by Kowa are doubly so. The mechanism is complex, and needs regular maintenance, which most don't get.

I have removed the top and bottom covers, and separated the camera body from the mirror and lens assembly. On this camera, the shutter does not operate correctly, and the capping plate, which covers the film gate when the camera is cocked, does not move to the correct position.

The camera body
