  Proper auctions

Love a good in-the-room auction (or in these times, point-and-click), so will link through to them when something good comes up.

Collectibles auction at Smiths in Chch this week.

Good range of stuff. Plenty of cameras. Anything take your fancy?

  Bull on a piano

Nice work spending $2.05 million for a bull on a piano. Of course you're paying for the Parekowhai name, but do we like it? Do we like it more than a Banksy or two Colin McCahons?

Where exactly do you put it? If you put it outside like the photo, would you have to tie it down along with the trampoline when the wind picks up?

  Stamp Club

We are open for business.

The Trade Me thread has been downloaded and will find a new digital home at some point in the future, so all previous questions, answers and ads for Stamp and Postcard Fairs in Christchurch will live on forever (or until the hosting runs out).

First topic of discussion...

Why are this year's Christmas stamps so incredibly bland? They've been doing these for 61 years, so I get that there's a limited amount of Yuletide imagery you can draw from the well on, but this earns a must try harder grade. Not helped by a problematic font choice necessitated by the simple design. One saving grace, easy to tell them apart by colour which is always handy for the older folk who for the most part are the actual users of the stamps.

  Sim card fun
Posted by: yousnoozeyoulose - 14-11-2021, 04:04 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (4)

Swapping out a sim card this afternoon...

It's a dual sim phone with a little tray for resting the sims on. Slide the tray out and what looks like a tiny little arrow falls out of the phone.

Hmm. That's probably not normal.

Put the sim card in and nothing happens. Try and few times, and still nothing happens.

Start wondering what phone I should upgrade to.

Tap the side of the phone, and another tiny little arrow falls out of the phone. Put the sim card in and it was back to normal.

Not sure what was up with the tiny little arrows. Part of the phone's construction, or given that it was bought cheaply off AliExpress, maybe indicating where to put all the spying equipment. Who knows!

Moral of the story - never rest until you get two tiny little arrows.

Interesting article about our drinking culture in NZ.

I am sure that it was Guyon's wife who was the subject of another story of alcoholism a few years ago, where she talked about her life and how alcohol affected it.
