Information Win10 driver update on Win11?
Posted by: allblack - 02-01-2023, 08:50 AM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (3)

Hey.

My HP Assistant is offering me the update below:

Realtek RTL8xxx Series Bluetooth Driver for Microsoft Windows 10 (DCHU)

My ? is, presumably the HP Assistant is smart enough to know I'm on 11, so why would it offer me this update?

And should I d/load it regardless because it knows more than I do?

Tks

Road to Zero road safety campaign

I don't know what the answer is, but throwing money at a problem obviously doesn't help.

Multi-million dollar road to zero: Govt cops criticism for 'extraordinary' ad spending - NZ Herald

The 2022 road death toll increased by 60 from 2021 total. Very sad.

A question for the train enthusiasts.
Posted by: Roscoe - 02-01-2023, 05:38 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

You will, of course, know that the majority of the railway system in this country works on a single line.

So there are no accidents the railways divides the single line into sections and only one train is permitted on one section at a time. Each train is given, by radio, a track warrant that gives that train permission to be on that section. That means that collisions are almost impossible. So I wonder why each train has a flashing red light on the rear of the last carriage on the train? There should not be another train anywhere near that train so does it really need a red flashing light?

Perhaps someone can tell me why that is necessary. I'd be interested to know the reason why.

  Fireworks Control

Or lack of control.

Despite local attempts to prevent this selfish indulgence, F & E gave consent and there was nothing the Council could do.   The entitled arse made it clear he didn't care about the safety of the horses and dogs nearby, and it is now clear he didn't care about the safety of his neighbours and their properties either.

  Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Interesting that in the 1600s it was a time in history when the New Year began on March 25th not January 1st. The Julian Calendar was replaced by the Gregorian Calendar, changing the formula for calculating leap years. Finally, 11 days were dropped from the month of September 1752.

Thought that you might find that interesting.

April gets here earlier every year.

You certainly have to take care of the details when you're in the "golden ears brigade". Imagine what it costs to get this upgraded cable all the way back through the power network to the generators.

It might be best to insist on free-range solar as the source. (Absolutely no battery farmed electrons of course.)
These are the good folk who can help you get absolute purity of sound to hear the King's speech while as a bonus helping your descendants minimise inheritance tax should it arise.
Please note, this is only the entry level power connector. The deluxe edition is obviously considerably more expensive. Ring now!

The anum faded a bit toward the end of it's tenure, but the replacement will here shortly.

Welcome MMXXIII.

However a little less firework stuff when you're the newbie might be wise.

Middle finger up to "Cashless Society"
Posted by: Kenj - 31-12-2022, 12:35 PM - Forum: PC World Chat - Replies (27)

Just been to the supermarket and before going in SWMBO went to the multi-bank cash money machine in the foyer. she was second in the queue and it worked well for the person in front. When SWMBO put her card in it gobbled it up. Management at the Supermarket it was nothing to do with them but said the machine had been playing up since before Christmas and the service people had been quite a few times to sort it out but the problem kept re-occurring and pissing users off! I rang the bank lost card service and cancelled the card.

Grrrr..... makes one think of going into a bank and drawing out cash once a week. Probably can only do that when you can find a bank, who mostly seemed to have disappeared during that huge banking tsunami of recent years where all the banks were swept away, never to be seen again.

Luckily for us, we bank with the TSB who still have branches open so will go and see them (quicker than having one posted these days) and maybe have to enter into a discussion with them if they try and charge me for a new card.

We are so lucky to have some excitement in our mundane elderly persons lifestyle. This sort of thing perks the mind up and now I won't feel too sad about going to bed at my usual time of 8.30pm tonight instead of going out to see the New Year in.

  Miranda Harcourt honoured
Posted by: Lilith7 - 31-12-2022, 10:14 AM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (1)

And extremely well deserved, imo. She does have the advantage of coming from a well known acting family - Kate Harcourt is her mother & most will also know of her daughter, Thomasin who's also hugely talented.
But she's done far more than perform & coach, & has also worked in prisons & with Women's Refuge.

  Macrium Reflect Free.
Posted by: neilmcc - 31-12-2022, 09:11 AM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (9)

Wainuitech, or others!

Just had notice that the free version will not be available in version 9.

I used to pay for Acronis years ago until I found Active@Image and paid for that until Macrium free came along.

Is there a program that's as good as Macrium Free or would it pay to pay!

And Happy New year to all the old PCWF crowd. Great to be able to see some here.
Thanks.
