Some rises have been as high as 80%
https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2023/4...h-the-roof
"Singapore ÔÇô┬áAustralian national Ben Dunn and his family consider themselves ÔÇ£Aussie-poreansÔÇØ. He has lived in Singapore for the last 16 years and his children, aged 10 and 13, were born here.
Drawn to SingaporeÔÇÖs ÔÇ£melting pot of people and ideasÔÇØ, sunny climate, and liveable environment, the Dunns enjoy soaking up the greenery at Botanic Gardens, visiting Queenstown Library and eating hawker food at the Tiong Bahru Market.
But after watching the monthly rent for the familyÔÇÖs condominium soar from 7,000 to 11,000 Singapore dollars ($5,242 to $8,238) in a matter of months, Dunn and his wife made the difficult decision to return to Australia when their lease ends in June.
ÔÇ£Since the pandemic, weÔÇÖve been thinking about how itÔÇÖs the right time to return home after being away for so long,ÔÇØ Dunn, 51, who works in finance, told Al Jazeera.
ÔÇ£We love living in Singapore but with the cost of living going up and wages not rising proportionally, this rent increase will cause a serious impact.ÔÇØ
While there are no official figures, Dunn is among a growing pool of expats leaving Singapore because of soaring rents, prompting concerns about whether the Southeast Asian city-state is at risk of losing its allure as a regional business hub.
Average rental prices in Singapore, where about 40 percent of the population is foreign-born, surged by 30 percent in 2022 ÔÇô the fastest pace in 15 years, according to data from SingaporeÔÇÖs Urban Redevelopment Authority."

| Opposition blasts govt - 'disconnected from ordinary Kiwis' |

Traditionally both ACT & National have always been so very, very, very deeply  concerned with the welfare of those on low incomes, often going out of their way to improve things for the ordinary Kiwi if possible, even if that made them unpopular.
Indeed, they're well known for their kindly humanitarian views intended for the good of all those who are struggling to cope with uncertain times.
And I am of course, Marie Of Romania....
Really, ACT & National?? Can you seriously believe we cannot recall which party it was which slashed benefits when in govt, thus helping create the poverty we now have here??!
Do you really think anyone with a functioning brain will swallow this total bollocks??
Ruth Richardson ring any bells at all? Jenny Shipley? No?
How about 'the decent society?'
And perhaps Jim Bolger - who finally, albeit  years later found the guts to speak against Neo Liberalism?
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politic...power-back
"Bolger says neoliberal economic policies have absolutely failed. It's not uncommon to hear that now; even the IMF says so.
But to hear it from a former National Prime Minister who pursued privatisation, labour market deregulation, welfare cuts and tax reductions - well that's pretty interesting.
"They have failed to produce economic growth and what growth there has been has gone to the few at the top," Bolger says, not of his own policies specifically but of neoliberalism the world over.
He laments the levels of inequality and concludes "that model needs to change."

I have a PDF file that I need to edit but I can't see how to do that. It says to upload the saved PDF file but I don't know how to save the PDF document.
I think to edit it I need Adobe Acrobat and so I go Adobe Acrobat Free but the only option I see is one that is quite expensive and not free.
Hopefully you will know where to go to get a free PDF editor.
Will you be able to tell me how to do that, please.
Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

This one at a sweet 16 party - what the hell is it going to take? How many people need to die before they change their gun laws? What is the unacceptable number which will make that change inevitable?
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/4/17...hday-party
"At least four people have been killed and 28 wounded in a shooting at a ÔÇ£Sweet 16ÔÇØ birthday party in the United States, according to police and media reports.
The gun attack in the small town of Dadeville in the southern US state of Alabama took place late on Saturday night, authorities said on Sunday.
Dadeville itself was shaken by at least one prior mass shooting in August of 2016, when a gunman wounded five people during a party at an American Legion hall, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.
ÔÇ£What has our nation come to when children cannot attend a birthday party without fear?ÔÇØ President Joe Biden said in a statement on Sunday.
Biden called the rising gun violence in the US ÔÇ£outrageous and unacceptable,ÔÇØ and urged the countryÔÇÖs Congress to pass laws to make firearms manufacturers more liable for gun violence, ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, and┬á┬á┬árequire safe storage of firearms and background checks for gun sales."
