"Protest convoy" set to head to parliament
Posted by: Lilith7 - 26-09-2023, 06:05 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (18)

Oh joy! The McBishop & other fruitloop groups are heading to parliament to protest because they're so ill informed they apparently think the UN's agenda 2030 is a plot to take over the world. Rolleyes Big Grin Big Grin

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/1330129...strictions

"The Freedoms & Rights CoalitionÔÇÖs (TFRC) ÔÇÿRevolution Convoy 2023ÔÇÖ┬ástarted making its way through the country on Tuesday,┬áwith groups in both Cape Reinga and Bluff.
The protesters are planning to arrive at Parliament in order to ÔÇÿconfront Ashley BloomfieldÔÇÖ ÔÇô asking the NZ public to ÔÇÿbe counted as a revolutionaryÔÇÖ as they protest ÔÇÿAgenda 2030ÔÇÖ.
A national conference looking at New ZealandÔÇÖs progress on the UNÔÇÖs sustainable development goals, whose keynote speakers include former Director-General of Health Sir Ashley Bloomfield, was supposed to happen in the area on Thursday, but has been moved online due to safety concerns.
TFRC was founded by Destiny ChurchÔÇÖs Brian Tamaki in 2021 in opposition to the┬áGovernmentÔÇÖs Covid-19 vaccine mandates. The group was heavily involved in the┬áoccupation at Parliament last year┬áand in August 2022 held a "people's court" on Parliament's steps for "crimes against Kiwis".
Pōneke Anti-Fascist Coalition is planning counterprotests on Thursday in response to the TFRC."

  Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino

I am certain that you have heard of Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino but perhaps you are more familiar with the acronym FIAT.

There is a very interesting programme on Duke  called Icons of Auto and in the latest episode they featured FIAT. Even more interesting when you realise that FIAT survived two world wars and a depression to become one  of the world's leading car makers.

There are many other interesting episodes on Duke at 1500 each Sunday. A good way to end the weekend. If you have an interest in cars it is well worth a look.

Nats to "crack down on people on benefits"
Posted by: Lilith7 - 26-09-2023, 11:11 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (43)

Their second favourite  scapegoat group after criminals - it was only a matter of time until they did something along these lines but I did think perhaps they'd have the decency to wait until after the election.
But no, poor bashing is apparently far too useful in gaining votes from the ill informed so they just couldn't wait until they're in power before showing their hand.
I'd say shame on them  but its very clear they're lacking any vestige of conscience.

It seems incredibly short sighted to stop raising benefits in line with the cost of living/wage inflation; they must be well aware of the consequences of this but are clearly not bothered by that.

Dodgy Dodgy

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politic...n-benefits

"The National Party has confirmed its welfare policy, including a change Labour says will see "thousands" of children fall below the poverty line.

National Party social development spokesperson Louise Upston
told┬áThe Post┬áin an interview from August┬áthat the party would stop raising unemployment benefits in line with the higher of either wage inflation or the cost of living. Labour social development spokesperson Carmel Sepuloni┬átold┬áStuff┬áthat proposal would see ÔÇ£thousandsÔÇØ of children sink below the poverty line.

The Children's Commission said indexing benefits to wage growth had been ÔÇ£the single biggest step to stop children remaining in povertyÔÇØ.

National's plan to move back to increasing benefits only in line with inflation was confirmed during this morning, during its welfare policy announcement at a West Auckland strawberry farm.

The party also said it would introduce a "traffic light" system for benefit sanctions, with an "orange" warning for beneficiaries when they've breached one or two work ready obligations, before cutting benefits at the red setting.

Other promises included requiring those on jobseeker support to reapply for the benefit every six months, and imposing a one-month benefit stand-down for people who are evading arrest warrants."

  Alternatives to petrol motors
Posted by: Roscoe - 26-09-2023, 07:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

Electric powered vehicles are very much the thing these days but that is nothing new. Electric cars have been around for many years but they have just not had the affect that you might think with all this talk of climate change.
But with the advent of electric vehicles finally having an effect around the world, it reminded me of that which my dad told me when I was a boy in the 50s. He said that there were a few individuals that same up with alternatives to the internal combustion engine but they never got anywhere because when the petrol companies heard about these alternatives they bought up the ideas and then promptly shelved them. They just did not want the competition.
But I don't remember my dad telling me what some of the alternatives were. Perhaps someone knows what some of these alternatives were? I suppose electric would have been one and possibly cng may have been another but does anyone have any idea what some of the other alternatives that were shelved may have been? I'd be interested to know.

Thumbs Up national to reverse speed limit changes

And restore the speed limits prior to labour slowing them down.
I know ACT will be on board with this too.
The road to zero campaign was an utter failure to say the least.

  90 billion dollars in debt

And the government is spending over 1 billion dollars more than normal each week.
Why would anyone vote labour when they are blowing so much money?

Thumbs Up methane science accord - the science is now clear

Even the corrupt IPCC is now saying that methane emissions are not as significant.
Say no to emissions pricing on livestock.
