Why is it the right wing nutters love to blame the government when capitalism goes wrong, instead of taking a good hard look at the real problem.

Human greed.

Well why was advertising allowed on TV? Many adverts also promoted vaping as safe, despite many calls to the govt to put a stop to it.
By the time it was addressed, it was too late, the tobacco giants had already got their customers.

Human greed? you mean the greed of tobacco giants? lol

Im quite surprised that such a left wing govt actually allowed this to even happen, usually its the opposite.

Obviously its a major issue with retailers illegally selling to minors, but thats a separate issue altogether.

Given that smoking kills people, & quite painfully at that, any effort to help prevent others from starting is not a bad thing. You could always take  your complaints about it to the tobacco industry, but since they deliberately withheld information about the harmfulness of their product for some years in order to continue making profits by allowing more people to become addicted, you might not get any reply, since they appear to lack any ethics.

Apparently anything at all, however small can now be blamed on 'PC' or the "woke brigade' by those who clearly don't mind hurting or insulting others. Rolleyes Rolleyes Big Grin
Well the govt was slow to the party when it came to vaping.
Who remembers all those catchy adverts for vapes with the cool music?
Now all the young ones are vaping this shit, they should have only been permitted as an alternative to cigarettes and took measures to prevent marketing to this new audience.
They are actually more potent than cigarettes, although a safer alternative, but we dont need a new generation hooked on this stuff, they still have health implications and now we have kids on the stuff.
Yes, the govt is indeed highly skilled at producing those ads aimed at getting kids addicted to vaping, & collecting the money from selling vapes.

Oh, hang on, no they aren't, are they. And afaik, no govt in any country saw the vaping problem coming either

Just out of curiosity, is there anything you won't blame on this govt??  Big Grin Big Grin

They were all a bit stupid back then - it wasn't half obvious at the time, when all the BIG tobacco companies started buying up or producing their own vape products.  They would suddenly act with integrity after 50 plus years of peddling their poison?

Maybe they were all a bit distracted by the minor problem of Synthetic cannabis...
The world would be a perfect place, if it wasn't for the humans.

Rubbish. It is not separate, it is what capitalism demands. Exploit where possible to increase profit. What is surprising is the complete lack of understanding from such a staunch anti government voice. You want the government to regulate now, but rail against that same government regulating elsewhere. Both in health related issues.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Perhaps we're in need of a new system. It seems that the same pattern repeats throughout history - the wealthy section of the community does its best to ensure that those who are poor remain so, apart from the odd token gesture. It remains difficult for those people to improve their situation under capitalism.

Once again, perhaps we could learn from Nordic countries which have a mix of capitalism & socialism which seems to work well.

WTF?
Where dis i say the govt engineered these ads? Im saying they allowed them to be permitted for some time.
The issue needed to be addressed early on right from the start.
The advertising should have been banned, but instead because of a loophole, it was permitted because it technically wasnt a "cigarette" or "tobacco"
Instead we needed to waste time with bureaucracy to debate over what to do with it.

So, you want the government to mandate some things, but not others. Just the ones that don't affect you?

Typical wooly thinking...

What 'technically' means in this case is that it wasn't legal to prevent advertising at the time.
So, is there anything you don't blame on this govt, then? Big Grin

Kinda ironic dont you think, not to mention extremely hypocritical!?
Vaping and smoking is OK, but we want to mandate a jab on people.
How about making smokers pay for their medical treatment instead?
I wonder how many smokers were killed from covid?

That in part is why there is such a large excise tax on tobacco, to help cover health costs...  The jab mandate was more so about stopping the spread of an infectious disease

And yet apparently, the difference isn't clear to some.
