its not about political discourse, or even dirty politics, its about basic human decency.

Agreed. I really don't understand people who take such pleasure in spreading what they surely know must be at best, exaggerated or at worst, malicious lies intended to cause harm to the subject of it.
It brings out the nastier side of humanity which is really not something this world needs.
