i did a river tour in Shanghai the guide on the boat was telling us all the pollution is because of the tourists

as we go past the back of a restaurant  and one of the lackeys is tipping buckets of slop into the river

they say Shanghai is the Venice of Asia

Close but no cigar. The "Venice of the East" is Suzhou, about 100km west of Shanghai.
