I met a young man who I suspect is one of the 501's outside the library one day. He struck up a conversation about my bike which has pannier bags & basket, remarking on how useful it must be.
He had an Australian accent & said he'd stayed at a friend's house the previous night but his friend had tried to kill him. I think I realised then that he was one or two sandwiches short, & went on to tell me that he was only in NZ until his Mum sent his birth certificate, & then it would all be alright & he could go home to Oz.
So here was a young bloke clearly not the full quid, who'd been dumped in NZ with little to zero chance of ever getting back home again to his family.
I'd really like to think that somehow, his situation had been sorted out & he was back home, but given the Australian govt's disgraceful & inhumane attitude that seems unlikely, poor little bugger.

in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)
