Ranfurly shield, get ready to grab the popcorn - nzoomed - 02-10-2023 Looks like it got broken into two at an after party, white powder found on it and a player arrested! https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/provincial/300981347/hawkes-bay-player-charged-following-afterparty-that-saw-ranfurly-shield-broken RE: Ranfurly shield, get ready to grab the popcorn - Lilith7 - 03-10-2023 This chap thinks it may be plaster, from earlier repairs. https://www.1news.co.nz/2023/10/03/ranfurly-shield-mystery-white-powder-could-be-plaster-restorer-says/#:~:text=The%20white%20powder%20seen%20in,responsible%20for%20its%20restoration%20says. Turns out that its not even the original shield anymore as far as the wood bit goes, its been replaced. I would have thought they would have retained the original wood even if it was old and worn, gives it a bit of its history. To me the split looks so straight that its likely split on a glued joint as its likely made from several pieces glued together. The old wood may have held up longer! RE: Ranfurly shield, get ready to grab the popcorn - zqwerty - 04-10-2023 The definition of a storm in a tea cup. Sad really. I was surprised that it seemed so flimsy really, thought they'd have made it from something more solid - & kept part of the original to somehow include that with it.
