I thought I'd start a thread for anyone who wants to add  any  interesting things we come across in books of all kinds.

Wink

"Possibly it feels good to these men to be superior to animals, but it does seem that if they were sure of it they would not have to prove it. Often a man who is afraid must constantly demonstrate his courage and, in the case of the hunter, must keep a tangible record of his courage. For ourselves, we have had mounted in a small hardwood plaque one perfect Borrego (big horned mountain sheep) dropping. And where another man can say ÔÇ£There was an animal, but because I am greater than he, he is dead & I am alive, & there is his head to prove itÔÇØ, we can say, ÔÇ£There was an animal, & for all we know there still is & here is the proof of it. He was very healthy when last we heard of him.ÔÇØ

The log from the sea of Cortez, John Steinbeck.

"The nations of the world that most vigorously foul the planetary nest & those in possession of the most destructive arsenals ought to be governed only by young women with small kids. More than anyone else, such mothers must live in the future, & they also face each day the realities of raw human nature. This gives them a special insight."

Children of god, Mary Doria Russell

"IÔÇÖve found the prescription for the powerful men of the world, the ones who sit around peace tables clad in jackets & ties. Put the blue child on the table & make them stay. Make them stay & watch death do its methodical work, watch as it eats away at the child from within. Hand out sandwiches, cigarettes & mineral water & leave them there while the child empties, while he decomposes to the bone .Leave them there for days, for all the days it takes. This is what IÔÇÖd do."
Margaret Mazzantini, Twice born.

"Religion is not one of my high points. I donÔÇÖt really subscribe to the stories surrounding each one, because they are just stories, remembered by men. I do feel the Great Spirit in all that is around me, & I am humbled/ I do pray with others if that is what they do. I donÔÇÖt judge them for that. That is their way I join them. Then I move on. The moon means a lot to me, as does the forest. All things natural speak to me with a rhythm that I feel. It is this that probably makes me a pagan.
There is no evil in the forest or the moon. Or, if there is, I donÔÇÖt see it.
The Great Spirit, as I like to call her, is in us all & in everything that lives or used to live, in everything that exists or used to exist."
Waging heavy peace, Neil Young

"My Mother didnÔÇÖt try to stab my Father until I was six, but she must have shown signs of oddness before that."
Never have your dog stuffed & other things IÔÇÖve learned, Alan Alda.

"The movie premiere. After the show, a loudspeaker alerted fans to the departing great ÔÇô Mr Clark GableÔÇÖs car! Miss Marlene DietrichÔÇÖs car! Miss Constance BennettÔÇÖs car! Miss Shirley TempleÔÇÖs motherÔÇÖs car! And on one glorious occasion ÔÇô Mr. Alfred HitchcarÔÇÖs cock!"
David Niven, Bring on the empty horses.

  Hail Mary

... full of Grace - Ryland Grace to be exact, the lead character, whose story has left me disturbed and sad, despite the moments of genius, and hilarity I enjoyed along the way.

So many questions, Andy Weir, so much psychological baggage to add to my already heavy load.

There ought to be a law against such books... but thank heavens there isn't.

I've received two of these today. Content is reasonably convincing but if you hover over the Renew Now button a fake link to a false URL shows. The email return path is also incorrect: inf@transport.govt.nz

Antivaxxers happy to see children die
Posted by: Magoo - 16-12-2021, 03:18 PM - Forum: Covid-19 - Replies (75)

to prove a point.

a class of 15 kids in eltham has been compromised by some murderous fuckwit who thinks hes smarter than science.
what kind of world do these social spastics want to live in.?

when children start dying, antivaxxers need to be charged with murder. pure and simple.

So when the virus gets free in any community, it will be children who are among the most vulnerable to catching it, as the Eltham cases have demonstrated.

'Of the 19 active cases in the region on Wednesday, only two were adults. The rest were children under 12, who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated.'

'Unfortunately this is likely the shape of things to come in this latest stage of the pandemic.'

and yet there are still those who refuse to help us protect our children. those who will do our children harm, those who only care about themselves.
people whos politics, misguided judgement and low intelligence that will not change until there are consequences to their actions.
child endangerment, wilful neglect of a minor, reckless indifference to life.
people will run out of patience very quickly when children start dying.
mark my words, the ugliest is yet to come.
they need to be separated from our kids and us. i want nothing to do with them.
complete and utter arseholes to a man, every one of them.

  Mandate protesters
Posted by: Oldfellah - 16-12-2021, 11:47 AM - Forum: Covid-19 - Replies (55)

Vaccine mandate protesters have again gathered in Wellington to march to Parliament - even though most MPs have gone home for the holidays.

A large number of protesters from the Freedom and Rights Coalition gathered in Wellington's Civic Square this morning and started a march to Parliament just after 11am.

They are protesting against the traffic light system, vaccine mandates and the Government's plan to vaccinate under-12s from next year.

They have the right to protest but I cant get my head around the fact they are doing it every week, dont they realise that people will be getting pissed off with them the more they carry on, yes they have made their point now get over it. And the stupidity of marching on parliament when there maybe only a few politicians there and probably not the ones they want to try and get their message to.

90% vaxxed
we did it faster than usa, uk, israel...everyone.
so...lets explore this shall we?

im not a labour voter btw, never have been. but praise for a job well done. adopted a plan, followed it staunchly
kept nz's Covid deaths under 30 while the rest of the world was ravaged, the usa losing more than 600,000 souls to the virus.
kept us homed, fed and safe while we fought it.
played the long game, didnt bow to public pressure, followed the science and those who know it.
true, its come at great cost, but that cost would be the same if we hadnt done all this.
we would have had the cost plus deaths, now we only have the cost without the unnecessary death.
isnt that a win? hard to knock it imo
they couldnt build a house or fix a road, fucken hopeless with money, but did us a solid with the steaming turd that is covid
