has been taken over by an Indian family and is a vast improvement on the previous business in variety, service, and price. They have opened another shop a bit further up the main route so now we have one close to each of our competing supermarkets, which keeps them honest and competitive.
Yesterday though I noticed a wee sign by their door that said they were open on Christmas Day, and it made me wonder about the way our legislation supports religious holidays of the Christian variety, but doesn't pay the same respect to Muslim, or Hindu, or Jewish or any of the other faith based celebrations.
If our local fruit guys get clobbered with a fine as has happened in the past, would they not then have a case for state based religious persecution?
Is it time we took a hard look at our own social bias towards one faith?

"Brian May has tested positive for COVID-19. Over the weekend, the Queen guitarist took to Instagram to share a post and pair of video messages detailing "Life After The Double Red Line."
"Yep. The shocking day finally came for me. The dreaded double red line," he captioned a photo of his positive test. "And yes - definitely NO sympathy please - it has been a truly horrible few days, but IÔÇÖm OK. And I will tell the tale. PLEASE take extra care out there, good folks. This thing is incredibly transmissible. You really do NOT want it messing up YOUR Christmas."
After detailing his experience with the illness, which he described as ÔÇ£the worst flu you can imagine,ÔÇØ and assuring fans he's feeling much better a week after getting sick, May reiterated the importance of getting vaccinated.
ÔÇ£This is not the response my body wouldÔÇÖve made on its own," he said. "ItÔÇÖs making this response because IÔÇÖve had three Pfizer jabs. And I beg you and implore you to go and get jabbed if youÔÇÖre not already, because you need the help. I lost one of my very best friends to COVID very early on. In six days it killed him. It couldÔÇÖve done me in the last six days but it didnÔÇÖt because of the jabs."
He ended his message with a note of solidarity. ÔÇ£DonÔÇÖt be scared but be cautious, because you donÔÇÖt want to get this," May said. ÔÇ£LetÔÇÖs all pull together to beat this damn coronavirus.ÔÇØ
Good for him - he could have just said nothing but instead chose to use his experience to encourage people to get the vaccination.

An Auckland lawyer who pleaded guilty to breaching lockdown rules to travel from Auckland to W─ünaka has been discharged without conviction, while her partner has been fined $750.
William John Lawrence Willis, 35, and Hannah Rawnsley, 26, travelled to Hamilton under the guise of delivering hay on September 9, while Auckland was in alert level 4.
They got through the Auckland-Waikato checkpoint unlawfully, by using essential worker exemptions.
They were then driven to Hamilton Airport, where they took a commercial flight to Queenstown, via Wellington, rented a vehicle and drove to a holiday home in W─ünaka.
REALLY!!!
Now if this hadnt been a judges son and his lawyer girlfriend but someone else I bet the fine would have been a damn site worse, what an insult, good on ya justice system
