  The Friendly West Coast

Have never been to Hokitika, but given the number of random people I said "hi" to in Westport, that doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

This made me laugh - overseas teacher visas
Posted by: Outsider - 02-02-2022, 06:24 AM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (2)

A principal, commenting on teachers who have visas to come to NZ urgently to fill vacancies and who are stuck as they can't get MIQ places:

She said she wished the Education Minister and Covid-19 Minister ÔÇô who are both Chris Hipkins ÔÇô could work it out together.

ÔÇ£I really hope the Minister of Education could talk to the minister in charge of the Covid response, maybe they would get somewhere.ÔÇØ

Quote of the day.

  Dr Campbell gets "fact checked"

Interesting video and I guess no surprises, ironically early on in the pandemic he had been praised by the same MSM.

Ive been a follower, (along with several here) of his videos and ive always found him a valuable resource of information and he is impartial, happy to cover both sides of the story.

  Pc Bullshit

So, I've seen displayed on TV and in written News articles the statement:

Pregnant people

WTF is going on in this STUPIDLY PC country of ours ?

Why can't a Lady/Female/Woman who is pregnant be called a Lady/Woman/Female ?

There are NO 'Pregnant people' ...............if you're not a Lady/Woman/Female then it's completely FUCKIN IMPOSSIBLE to become pregnant.

Yeah I know it's not an earthchanging issue but FFS !

It needs to happen sooner rather than later even if it's political suicide. Who's going to be the martyr?

  Should we drop MIQ?
Posted by: Wainuiguy - 01-02-2022, 07:55 AM - Forum: Covid-19 - Replies (44)

The idea behind MIQ was always the right one - Quarantine incoming people to keep Covid out.  Certainly in the early days of the pandemic that was good (let's not go into most if not all of the breaches occured via MIQ).

However with the virus no longer contained and numbers of infected in the community quickly outstripping the numbers in MIQ isn't this now time to disband MIQ?  I know the argument will be around another variant - but this virus isn't going away.  There will be many more variants to come and if they mutate along normal lines you will see those variants become more infectious but have less health risks.

Time to remove MIQ.

Arlo Pro camera motion detection stops & starts working
Posted by: Underwhelmed - 31-01-2022, 08:50 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (1)

We have had Arlo Pro system for a few years and recently bought a new Arlo Pro add on camera from Trade Me.  Sometimes this camera captures video (eg cat at far end of driveway in pitch black night) and other times not (eg me wandering around in broad daylight directly in front of the camera for 20+ minutes trying to get it to record video.)

The camera has been removed from the base station, added back, synced again and the modes and rules have been checked and rechecked.  All the other original cameras are working fine.

I have tried the Device Utilities Motion Detection Test and it just keeps running, nothing flashes yellow as it's supposed to. I've changed the sensitivity to high.  The snapshot function is working and saving to the library, the motion detection icon is on but motion detection is hit and miss.  If I wave a broom in front of the camera, it will record.

Wifi strength for the camera is at 2 out of 3 but I can go to live view no problem.  Another camera has the same strength and records fine.

Any ideas?
