  who knew Havelock
Posted by: Magoo - 13-03-2022, 01:15 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (7)

and Marlborough region was so backwards?
theyve still got maskholes down there, abusing locals and retailers.
and not the odd one, up to 20 a day for some places

wtf? i thought it was a hippy enclave.
last time i was in havelock it smelled like incense and mussels
you could buy toe rings at the dairy.
the busiest shop was the bead/crystal/fantasy on the main drag.

have the hippies grown old and embittered?
or have their kids grown up without enough red meat in their diets.?
who would have thought assholes would assemble geographically?
unusual that a place so benign be saturated with slack jawed window lickers.

havelock, explain yourself

The Act Party wants to give everyone in the country $187 a year to counter the rising cost of living.

Somehow I think it would take a damn sight more than that to counter the cost of living.
What do you guys think of Davids fantastic offer?

Ok we know petrol is at an all time high but why are oil companies putting up prices when the shipment has been obviously been bought and paid for and is on the way, should they not wait until the more expensive shipment that they have had to pay a high price for arrives?

It may be a simple answer but its something I cant get my head around.

  Piel island has new king.

He's a submarine electrician which is sure to come in handy.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cumb...his%20head.

"Barrow Council had more than 190 expressions of interest to run the Ship Inn and Piel Island, located half a mile off the Furness coast.
The council said Aaron Sanderson, an electrical team leader at BAE Systems Submarines, is its preferred bidder.
If successful, he would be crowned the King of Piel by having alcohol poured over his head.
The 33-year-old, who plans to move to the island with his partner Anita Palfi, said he could not get the idea of taking on the pub out of his head having visited the island "many times" as a child."

  the Ukrainian Question
Posted by: Magoo - 11-03-2022, 06:42 AM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (46)

i see some parallels between the russia/ukraine, and the Ireland/england relationship.
and to a degree the palestinian/israeli question.

russia has a long and complicated relationship with the ukraine going back centuries.
i think the russians actually paid for a large portion of ukraine in the 16th century?
it could even be said that ukraine annexed russia, it being an economic powerhouse back then,
and kiev well established as a city before moscow.

it was russia that took the crimea creating a good chunk of todays ukraine.
but by the 1800's ukraine was part of russian empire.
it wasnt until the 1917 turbulence did the ukraine declare itself sovereign from russia
and the russians took it back off them soon as the revolution was over.
i think kruschev was ukrainian?

what really drew the ukraines together as an entity was when the russians allowed 6 million of its population to starve to death in the 30's.

interesting side note the ukrainians  were instrumental in the formation of the UN

it seems cut and dried to us, russia bad, leave independent ukraine alone, but there is so much more to it.
russia built the ukraine with russian rubles, and along with the austrians kept it until the communists got there.
in russian minds they have a legitimate claim to it.

At last, something to make the right-whingers a bit less grumpy. They've been so utterly miserable for so long.

People didn't want Covid. Labour protected them from getting it. Labour did well. Now there's Covid. Labour did bad. A story as old as time.

National 39 (+7)
Labour 37 (-3)
Green 9
Act 8 (-3)
Maori 2

Maori Party hold the balance of power. I'm sure that would turn out great for them for at least one term, and then turn toxic if history is any guide.

Jenny Shipley, Mainzeal directors seek to overturn damages
Posted by: Lilith7 - 10-03-2022, 02:34 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

Yet again, they don't want to pay the damages. They failed to overturn this last year but were successful in getting a fresh damages hearing, so they're having another go.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/1279710...reme-court

"Jack Hodder QC, representing Shipley, Gomm, and Tilby, told the Supreme Court on Monday that MainzealÔÇÖs directors developed a strategy to save the company, and that they had acted rationally and without self-interest in doing so."

Really, 'without self interest?' So...they had no expectation of making money from this, then? Angel Angel

First fuel, now food: is our competition watchdog letting us down?

If anyone is out of touch with the real world I think It's these people, they are obviously on highly inflated pay packets that it makes no difference to them one way or the other, so tell me what good are they?
