  Richard Sivell
Posted by: Oldfellah - 29-03-2022, 08:04 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (25)

A man on the police national watch list after allegedly making death threats against Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is in custody after armed officers placed him in handcuffs at a rural Bay of Plenty property.

In audio messages to the Counterspin channel on Telegram, Sivell has used an account in his own name to say of government politicians: "They are going to die. We are not going to allow them to share this world with us anymore. Same as Jacinda. She is going to die. Execute these motherf***ers. I look forward to hearing their necks snap."

"I'm pretty scared bro," he told his caller. "I don't know why it justifies this sort of behaviour. They have been looking for me for a long time just because I have a loud voice and an opinion."

This man is scared but has no fear about wanting to hang others and hear their necks snap, what would you do with him, I know what I would do but then I would be no better than him.

  Louisa Wall leaves parliament
Posted by: Lilith7 - 29-03-2022, 02:03 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (11)

After 14 years Louisa Wall has resigned as an MP. That seems a bit sudden but maybe she's just had enough of it.

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/...ament.html

"First elected in 2008 as an MP on Labour's list, Wall held the seat of Manurewa from 2011 to 2020. During her time in Parliament, she championed and won marriage equality for same-sex couples in 2013, passed law that establishes safe zones for women having abortions and in most recent weeks advanced legislation for Paige Harris.

"It's been an honour to represent and provide a voice in parliament to those who are so often unheard," Wall said.
"I've loved working as a parliamentarian and have enjoyed building relationships with colleagues across the house. Most recently I've thoroughly enjoyed my role as co-chair of the Inter-parliamentary Alliance on China and advocating for human rights."
Ardern, as Labour leader, paid tribute to the outgoing MP.
"Louisa has been a hero to many throughout her parliamentary career. Her commitment to human rights and equality has been absolutely unwavering. She has been relentless in her pursuit of human rights for all," Ardern said. "

Luxon on National using the Oscars incident.
Posted by: Lilith7 - 29-03-2022, 01:53 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (15)

Excellent that it was removed so quickly, but it really should never have happened.

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/...riate.html

"Christopher Luxon says it was inappropriate for the National Party Facebook page to share a meme of Will Smith smacking Chris Rock at the Oscars on Monday.

National on Monday evening shared an image on its Facebook of Smith slapping Rock, with Smith labelled as 'Labour's Cost of Living Crisis' and Rock referred to as 'Hardworking Kiwis'.
"I wasn't aware of it at the time. I became aware of it this morning," Luxon, the party leader, said on Tuesday morning. "What I was pleased to hear was that it had been taken down within 20 minutes and we have had conversations with the relevant people and I think the lessons have been learnt."
He said he doesn't believe it was appropriate."

  New letter rates...
Posted by: yousnoozeyoulose - 29-03-2022, 12:04 PM - Forum: Trademe Discussion - Replies (9)

See that NZ Post have quietly announced their increases to letter rates - seriously I haven't seen any media reporting - it's almost like they've postdated their press release. But anyway, from July 1:

Standard $1.70
Large $3
Oversize $4.30

Time to stock up on Kiwistamps.

Will Smith smacks Chris Rock after remark about his wife
Posted by: Lilith7 - 28-03-2022, 06:30 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (44)

Perhaps not in the best of taste, but did he deserve that smack in the face? Will Smith later apologised  to the academy for hitting him but not to Chris Rock.

I think the nasty little shit deserved it. Though probably not the best time & place to do that.

  Oscars kerfuffle
Posted by: harm_less - 28-03-2022, 03:23 PM - Forum: Movies & TV - Replies (3)

A bit of a distraction at the Oscars ceremony earlier as Will Smith took exception to Chris Rock's mention of Will's wife's alopecia condition and lands a punch to Chris's jaw to settle the issue. https://twitter.com/i/status/1508271473458253828 NSFW Contains strong language.

Be interesting to see if legal action follows over this.

  saddle up
Posted by: Magoo - 28-03-2022, 10:24 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

this thread is about cyclists.
not the guy struggling into a headwind on a borrowed bike with half flat tyres at six oclock on the morning to get to work because he just lost his license. hes off the hook.

nor are the saddlebag set, who have been agreeably absent since the outbreak. those are the ones grunting their way over the paraparas carrying all their earthlies on their skinny little bicycles. what a fucking nightmare. road maps dont show topography, and the trip looked easy from his laptop in sveden.  those poor sods are safe as well.

then youve got the sunset electric squads, they travel in numbers on their flash electric bikes, often over light terrain. old timers who never rode a meter before the electric bike. to be safe they ignore the roas and go for just the sort of terrain one might walk the dogs, or jog, or take a leisurely stroll. not have a goddam moto-cross event.
but i digress. the oldies are fairly harmless, would be better if they had little cat collars bells around their necks so we could hear them coming.

no, this thread is about road racing cyclists. who can guess which side of the fence spit flecked, fuseless, angry old prick magoo is going to fall?

you better believe it. now there may be one or two of these around, if so, nothing personal you road bogarting bicycle bastards.
the bottom feeders of the carriageway if you will. their sport of road racing demands they practice on roads, and indeed, compete on roads. that being so, and there being so many of them, why dont they build their own roads instead of using our carriageways?

i like rugby, could i practice on the roundabout at botany downs? do anglers demand water be made available for their sport? would the southern motorway be a good place for a game of tennis? motor racing provide their own circuits and practice tracks. as does tennis, netball etc. yes much of that is public funded, so go through the process cyclists and apply, sell some banana cakes. our schools have to do it for fund raising what makes the road cycling fraternity different?

im not going to go into the crotch wobbly lycra lot with cleats on their shoes, clip clopping across the lino down at
the local four square with their VPluses. mincing their way out like theyre late for the Pride March. i'll say nothing of their seats, other than its not all about girth boys.

nor will i go into the fact they contribute nothing by way of ongoing maintenance of our roads via petrol taxes, but are somehow excluded from paying road user charges as well. a double grift imo. i wont lambast them any further for these indiscretions because i know they had to get their bikes there in cars that use fuel ruc's etc.  thats fine and well, but i dont expect then to restrict your access at any given time while i participate in my sport.

theyre a scourge and a pox on the landscape. and as Deedee, joey, johnny and markee say, im against it
kick it deedee

Where is TV1 Plus 1 gone???
Posted by: badjer27 - 28-03-2022, 12:29 AM - Forum: Movies & TV - Replies (14)

The Freeview app on my phone indicates that Channel 11 is TV1 Plus 1 (showing programs 1 hour later, as it used to be before the schedule changes). The official announcement of the new schedule stated clearly that Channel 11 would be TV1 Plus 1.
But when I click on Channel 11 now, it says "This program number is not available". What's going on (and which channel is TV1 Plus 1 on now)?  This is now a week after the new schedule started - more than enough time to sort out any bugs ...  Huh Angry

  Oscars on Monday
Posted by: yousnoozeyoulose - 26-03-2022, 02:54 PM - Forum: Movies & TV - Replies (1)

That film I didn't really like, The Power of the Dog is in good shape to pick up the best picture gong with Jane Campion pretty much assured of a directing nod. It's not really your typical "Oscar" film, but it only has to beat the opposition. Would like Coda to win but that might be a bridge too far for the voters. Will Smith and Jessica Chastain looking likely for best actor and actress respectively. Technical awards for Dune no doubt, Drive My Car for best international (i.e. foreign film), Encanto for best animation.

It's been a fairly tepid year for film. Covid with its impact on filming as well as the impact on box office returns will have had an effect on studio output, so you'd hope for a few more must-see films moving forward.

And that's my Oscars roundup while I boil the jug for a cup of Dilmah.
