Is anyone else getting a page full of warnings when they open this forum? The header is gone and replaced with a load of code warnings... At least, I think that is what they are...

Unbelievable, that anyone in these times can be so uninformed.

"A well-known property developer has come under fire on social media for saying women should use their ÔÇ£youth and beauty to get the best possible manÔÇØ before blaming backlash on ÔÇ£being attacked by the leftÔÇØ.
Horncastle responded to the question saying ÔÇ£First I believe in personal freedom. You do you,ÔÇØ before he says his core beliefs were that ÔÇ£traditional gender roles workÔÇØ.

ÔÇ£A woman should use her youth and beauty to get the best possible man. What I have read about having babies (super limited) is that it is more healthy for the mother and baby to do it sooner instead of later.

ÔÇ£A man should develop himself first, strength, success financial security. Then choose the best possible woman.ÔÇØ

So...'believes in personal freedom?' Unless you happen to be female apparently; then you just need to be 'young & gorgeous to get the best possible man'. Dodgy

I just posted this on the old Press F1 but just in case it closes I will repeat it here.

We are about to go onto Starlink early next month. I am wondering if there is anyone here who is on Starlink and might have some comments to share?

"He would have us believe that heÔÇÖs merely returning to a freer, more honest time, when blokes could be blokes in the pages of newspapers, without the threat of ÔÇ£cancellationÔÇØ. This is wrong ÔÇô tolerance for the casual objectification of women and girls, misogynist tropes, both masked and perpetuated by a kind of Carry On playfulness, has dropped off a lot this century."

Elon Musk, are the gods of silicon valley falling?
Posted by: Lilith7 - 19-12-2022, 05:49 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (3)

This is really bizarre, & seriously scary.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...E3OokD-pMI

"IÔÇÖm willing to gamble a few Bitcoins that the popular fixation has little to do with any particular interest in successful software engineering; rather it is the personalities who inhabit these spaces, and the philosophies that propel them in their godlike ambition. What is their end goal, we wonder.┬á

Then there was the allegation last week by the┬áInsider┬ájournalist Julia Black┬áthat Musk, along with other billionaires, appear to be engaged in their own personal eugenics programme via a movement called ÔÇ£pronatalismÔÇØ. Black writes that pronatalism ÔÇô┬áan ideology┬ácentred on having children to reverse falling birthrates in European countries, and prevent a predicted population collapse ÔÇô is ÔÇ£taking hold in wealthy tech and venture-capitalist circlesÔÇØ, with the aid of hi-tech genetic screening.

Musk has┬áchampioned┬ápronatalist ideas publicly. Privately the Tesla co-founder is, in his own words, ÔÇ£doing my partÔÇØ; he has┬á10 children┬áknown to the public, two of whom are twins he fathered with an AI expert who serves as an executive for his Neuralink company. But the ideas go beyond Musk and into the canyons of Silicon Valley; the worldÔÇÖs richest and most powerful people see it as their duty, Black claims, to ÔÇ£replicate themselves as many times as possibleÔÇØ.
┬áThe underlying raison dÔÇÖetre tying these various tech titans together is their fervour for enacting their own personal theological outlooks in supposed service of the wider world. To do this, they must dominate and monopolise ÔÇô remake society in their image, platform by integrated platform.

When we view these monoliths as businesses like any other, or allow them to claim global monopolies, we fail to realise that they are competing for more than our attention or our cash: they are competing for the right to dictate what our societies look like. So it matters a great deal when that vision falters, or fails altogether. ItÔÇÖs the stuff of myth and folktale played out via forums and Wall Street Journal tip lines; the emperors slowly shedding their clothes. We are watching would-be gods shrink back to being men once more."

  Farewell, Mr Haffman
Posted by: Lilith7 - 19-12-2022, 10:37 AM - Forum: Movies & TV - No Replies

Watched this the other night, really good with a few unexpected twists.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynh8hXoLza8

https://www.smh.com.au/culture/movies/th...5aem0.html

"The play on which this movie is based, by French actor Jean-Philippe Daguerre, was first performed in 2016 in Avignon and went on to win four national theatre awards. In a generous gesture, Daguerre then handed it to Fred Cavaye, an old friend, to make a film and gave him full licence to change what he wanted.
The result is a powerful movie that wanders far from the play - but not so far that we canÔÇÖt see its origins. No helping that: it is the story of a Jewish man cooped up in a basement in Paris during the war, as German troops march outside. The claustrophobia is built in, in that sense.

In the first act, Haffmann persuades his wife to take their three children to the ÔÇ£free zoneÔÇØ, hoping they can make it to Switzerland. He will follow in a few days. Before leaving, he ÔÇ£sellsÔÇØ his shop to his right-hand man Mercier - complete with deed of sale - with the understanding that heÔÇÖll give it back after the war, when Haffmann returns. Mercier readily agrees, although his timid wife Blanche (Sara Giraudeau) is appalled. HeÔÇÖs using you, she says. Yes, and weÔÇÖre helping to save his family, responds the thoroughly decent Mercier, whoÔÇÖs longing for a chance to shine as a jewellery designer. Haffmann comes back that night: the escape routes are already closed. He ends up hiding in the cellar, as his employee becomes the new boss.

If reversal of fortune were the only idea, the film might have failed, but itÔÇÖs just the beginning. CavayeÔÇÖs rewrite looks at the whole notion of collaboration, a thorny subject in a country that not only allowed, but assisted the deportation and murder of almost 75,000 French Jews."

  Iran's top actress arrested
Posted by: Lilith7 - 18-12-2022, 02:11 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - No Replies

Because she supported the protests there. Their govt seems hell bent on ignoring protests & simply murdering anyone who dares disagree with them. Angry Dodgy

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-64014920

"Iranian authorities have arrested one of the country's best known actresses, after she expressed solidarity with anti-government demonstrators.
Taraneh Alidoosti was detained on charges of "spreading falsehoods" about the protest movement that has gripped the country, state media said.
In an Instagram post last week, she condemned the execution of a man over his involvement with the protests.
Ms Alidoosti is best known for her role in the Oscar-winning film The Salesman.
In her post, the 38-year-old took aim at some international organisations for not speaking out against the execution of Mohsen Shekari.

"His name was Mohsen Shekari. Every international organisation who is watching this bloodshed and not taking action, is a disgrace to humanity," she wrote.

According to a post on the state news agency IRNA's Telegram account, she was arrested by police for failing to provide "any documents in line with her claims".

Her Instagram account, which has more than eight million followers, was recently taken down."

Wanted - good free video downloader program
Posted by: badjer27 - 17-12-2022, 07:23 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (3)

I use 4K Video Downloader for downloading video clips of subjects IÔÇÖm studying.┬á ItÔÇÖs excellent for many websites like YouTube, but many websites just wonÔÇÖt respond, and I canÔÇÖt find any straightforward way to do this.
IÔÇÖm on a very tight budget, so any free and easy-to-use programs that will let me do that would be great.┬á Many programs claim they will work with ÔÇ£hundreds of websitesÔÇØ, but often donÔÇÖt.
Please note:- I have no intention of breaching any copyright material.
Obstructive, critical or negative comments will not be helpful, but positive and useful suggestions will be genuinely valued - any constructive and practical help appreciated.
