Seems to be the blame for alot of the devastation such as bridges washed out.
Kinda ironic, since this industry is supposed to be our saviour to climate change!
Now they are worried about the timber industry suffering.
Well perhaps they should be farming the land instead of planting it all in pines.

Why don't the sell the stuff as firewood anyway?
They just leave it to rot, apparently the greens stopped them from burning it all off, so they have alot to answer for.
Even better, they should send it to the Huntly power station, since it turns out it can run on wood!

I never would have thought of that
Posted by: Roscoe - 22-02-2023, 07:20 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

I am moving into a unit in a retirement village in April. Obviously I cannot move in until it is paid for but the unit is not occupied so I thought that they would not mind if I moved some of my belongings in before I moved but they said no. They said that I cannot move belongings in until two weeks before the move in date.

Reason? Because they have had people move their furniture in before the due date and then pull out because they have suffered from a heart attack or a stroke.

While I'm feeling fine I don't suppose there is any way I can say I won't suffer a heart attack or stroke so I will just have to wait a few weeks.

That quite surprised me. I never would have thought of that as a reason for not moving some of belongings in.

Thumbs Down Woke crowd censor Roald Dahl's books...

UK's prime minister Rishi Sunak thinks its absurd, I think this says alot coming from him.
In fantastic Mr fox, tractors are no longer "black" this is beyond ridicolus.
Augustis gloop is no longer described as "fat" and the oompa loopas are now gender neutral.

Roald Dahl would be disgusted.

  Flash Drive disappearing folder/files
Posted by: cassiemak - 22-02-2023, 03:00 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (8)

Have a dodgy cursor occassionally plays up, sometimes it just deletes files or tabs or closes them when it's over them. Usually I'm quite careful to make sure it's not over anything unless going to do something. (getting new laptop soon). Have got round the deleted emails get back from Trash or the closed web tabs by Ctrl T

But today I had a flash drive in looking at a list of old folders with photos in.
I glanced up and it was saying "... Moving. " and the folder disappeared, then it quickly did the next one, before  I could move/stop  it.
It didn't say deleting it said "moving", where would it have moved the folder to or are they gone
I had look in C drive for recycle bin not there

Russian women going to Argentina to give birth
Posted by: Lilith7 - 22-02-2023, 02:46 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (14)

Thousands of Russian women travel to Argentina to give birth because they don't need a visa to enter the country & a child born there is automatically a citizen which makes it easier for parents to eventually also become citizens.

  A boy called Piano
Posted by: Lilith7 - 21-02-2023, 06:07 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - No Replies

Did anyone happen to catch this last might on Maori TV? I'd forgotten it was on & missed the first few minutes but it was brilliant, if a bit harrowing in places.
I was especially pleased to see a brief clip from Miranda Harcourt's piece from her prison work  which was shown on TV years  ago. I thought then that it was very well done, affecting & likely to do some good along the way. And so it seems, with the man the doco is about citing it as a huge influence in helping him to get himself sorted & turn his life around.

Often the reason for boys joining gangs is having been removed from family & put into an institution. Where sadly, they were often abused.

Wasnt long ago when everyone was blasting Elon Musk for introducing this into Twitter, now Facebook is following suit it seems.
Looks like this is going to be the new norm, but im not paying $11 or so per month to have a badge, they should really be going after all the fake accounts scamming everybody. They dont seem to do much when I report a fake account currently

The cruelty of American abortion laws
Posted by: Lilith7 - 19-02-2023, 02:50 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (3)

This family's pregnancy ends in tragedy made worse by their cruel laws, which mean that a non viable foetus must be carried to term, despite the fact that the baby is likely to survive only minutes.
