He must have known what he was doing...

Quote:A respected JP who allegedly used his bank accounts to help offshore criminals steal nearly $1.8 million from 12 investment scam victims has lost suppression and can finally be named.

Suren Sharma is a Karaka accountant and registered IRD tax agent who is also the director and shareholder of multiple companies.

The 73-year-old pensioner has been a Justice of the Peace since the 1980s when he was recommended for the position by former Manurewa MP Sir Roger Douglas.

Sharma has been fighting to keep his name secret since his arrest on money laundering charges in January last year, arguing his reputation and accountancy business would both be destroyed if he was identified.

  ACT - vindictive streak?
Posted by: Lilith7 - 21-05-2025, 11:25 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (14)

Thiose Delightful People in parliament are at it again.

ACT asked for information on the range of punishments for the Treaty Principles Haka in parliament last year - including imprisonment. Which says everything about that particular party.

It seems that despite their claims to the contrary, if it involves The Maori Party then ACT isn't all that keen on peaceful protest... Dodgy

Despite this govts weasel words, we now have three charity hospitals. Three fgs!

The Story of the Mexican Fisherman

An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.
The Mexican replied, ÔÇ£only a little while.ÔÇØ The American then asked why didnÔÇÖt he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his familyÔÇÖs immediate needs. The American then asked, ÔÇ£but what do you do with the rest of your time?ÔÇØ
The Mexican fisherman said, ÔÇ£I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, and stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life.ÔÇØ
The American scoffed. ÔÇ£I have an MBA from Harvard, and can help you,ÔÇØ he said. ÔÇ£You should spend more time fishing, and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, and eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middle-man, you could sell directly to the processor, eventually opening up your own cannery. You could control the product, processing, and distribution,ÔÇØ he said. ÔÇ£Of course, you would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then Los Angeles, and eventually to New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.ÔÇØ The Mexican fisherman asked, ÔÇ£But, how long will this all take?ÔÇØ
To which the American replied, ÔÇ£Oh, 15 to 20 years or so.ÔÇØ
ÔÇ£But what then?ÔÇØ asked the Mexican.
The American laughed and said, ÔÇ£ThatÔÇÖs the best part. When the time was right, you would announce an IPO, and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich. You would make millions!ÔÇØ
ÔÇ£Millions ÔÇô then what?ÔÇØ
The American said, ÔÇ£Then you could retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you could sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, and stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play guitar with your amigos.ÔÇØ
