Frozen in time; deserted hotel, Australia
Posted by: Lilith7 - 04-08-2023, 04:04 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (6)

Came across this.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/destinati...-by-chance

"An old, turn-of-the century Victor piano with warped and weathered keys sits forever waiting in the front parlour.
In other rooms, a thick layer of dust covers beds that are still made up, while clothes hang long forgotten in wardrobes.
The decaying, yet poignant scenes were snapped by Jo Quigley, who stumbled across the abandoned hotel and general store in New South Wales, Australia while out with her husband and kids on a Sunday drive last month.
Photos taken by Quinley show a snapshot in time. The building appears to have been abandoned for decades, with much of its contents remaining inside.
In other rooms, Quinley found a record player, as well as an old-fashioned chrome and wood TV set.
There were about three or four rooms that had been used for hotel guests, Quinley said.
"It was really strange. There was all of this clothing still there, which is not something that most people would leave behind."

"In the part of the building where the general store was, there was a shop counter painted pink with a whole heap of box shelves behind it," Quinley said.

Quinley said the old hotel had left a lasting impression on her and her family.
"It made us sad, actually, because you can imagine there would have been so many happy times there and it's just been left - for whatever reason."

  Re-installing Win11
Posted by: decibel - 04-08-2023, 12:00 PM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (3)

From friend from England has an ASUS VivoBook which, when turned on, constantly restarts.

The ASUS helpdesk (which was only half-pie helpful) suggested reloading the BIOS which I did successfully but it did not fix the problem.
I have tried booting from my Win10 USB stick but it went into "Install" mode rather than "Repair" mode and I was promptly asked for the Product Key which he doesn't have.

If I was to download the correct Win11 file and boot from that, is there a possibility that the correct Key will be detected from the laptop and "Repair" mode initiated ?

Cheers.

  Top 10 signs you're a Christian fundamentalist
Posted by: Lilith7 - 03-08-2023, 03:20 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (2)

Top ten signs youÔÇÖre a Christian fundamentalist

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune (that means three in one) God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.
2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Possible sighting of the Dad of missing family
Posted by: Lilith7 - 03-08-2023, 03:17 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (10)

You have to hope that regardless of circumstances he turns up with the kids safe & well. They've been gone quite a while & it must be hell for their mum & other family.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3009424...stolen-ute

"Police have confirmed there were three sightings of missing father of three Tom Phillips in Waikato on Wednesday night.
Tom and his three children Jayda, Maverick and Ember were reported missing from Marokopa by family on January 18, 2022.
On Wednesday evening police received reports of sightings of Phillips in a brown/bronze 2003 Toyota Hilux flat-deck ute on State Highway 31 in the K─üwhia area.
Inspector Will Loughrin said in a press conference on Thursday the Hilux was a stolen vehicle and the children were not with him.
Phillips was also sighted in a Bunnings in Te Rapa at 4pm and in K─üwhia about 6.45pm on Wednesday where he was in an altercation involving another vehicle.
Police were contacted and attempted to locate the vehicle, but it was not found.
Police believed there were people in the community helping him and the children, and urged those people to do the right thing and come forward.
ÔÇ£Our priority is, and has always been, working to locate Tom and the children to ensure their welfare, and we have continued to follow up on information reported to us where relevant.ÔÇØ
A warrant to arrest Phillips was issued when he┬áfailed to appear in Te K┼½iti District Court in January┬álast year on a charge of wasting police time and resources┬áin relation to the familyÔÇÖs first disappearance┬áback in September 2021."

ACT rules out working with NZ First
Posted by: C_T_Russell - 03-08-2023, 10:16 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (25)

Luxon is really the one who has the last say and I doubt that Seymour can force Luxon to rule out working with them entirely unless National and ACT both have enough votes to govern together without NZF.

Although in this article I find it interesting that Seymour is essentially ruling out working with NZF in cabinet.
When I had earlier spoken to ACT members they told me they would refuse forming a government with NZF at all.
So perhaps ACT has warmed up to the idea a little, I doubt they would rather form no government and hand it over to Labour for a third term just for the sake of not working with NZF.

But the good news is that the recent roy morgan poll is indicating enough support for NZF to return to government again.

  Strawberry plants at Mitre10
Posted by: SueDonim - 01-08-2023, 04:02 PM - Forum: Gardening & DIY - Replies (3)

I saw a programme on TV recently that pretty much said the weather has wiped out any hope of home gardeners being able to get plants this year. Then got some at our local Mitre10. I just checked their website and it seems that while many stores don't have them, many do so I thought people might like to know.

Another week , another disastrous poll for Labour

Now National and ACT hold a very clear lead 2 months out from the election.  At this point Hipkins must be getting very nervous and so too must almost 30 of his Caucus collegues who, on these numbers, will be polishing their CVs.

Hipkins insists, after releasing their list over the weekend, that Labour has a large amount of quality talent.  But if that is so why did they replace Kiri Allen with Tamati Coffey?  A candidate so poor that even in 2020s "red wave" he couldn't hold his seat.
