Protests again today.
#1
The protesters, who earlier today gathered at Auckland Domain, have reached Newmarket's biggest mall 277 - chanting "Jacinda must go".
This is the first time people have congregated to object to the vaccine mandate since Aucklanders got their freedom yesterday.
A teacher spoke over the PA about how the situation "really hit home" this week with unvaccinated people being unable to buy a coffee in a cafe and purchase other items.

I dont care if people are unvaccinated its their choice but in the same instance as long as they dont affect me or mine thats ok.
As for the teacher speaking about not being able to get a coffee or other items, well the choice is clear isnt it?  Huh Huh

I didn't realise that! The cops (If there were any in attendance) should have moved the bastards on or were they being gutless again and just observing which they seem to do a lot. I agree poor kids missing out to those wankers.

The unvaccinated should stop wasting time with protests and get together and buy themselves an island. Trade Me is bound to have a few listed...

What utter bastards, to go and interrupt a kids game of cricket. It beggars belief. And what is the point? Is it working for them?
Bloody ignorant aholes.

One thing about the traffic light system I didn't anticipate was the return of long, loud, private parties. Next door but one had one last night. The little street was choked with cars, the music wasn't loud but the screaming voices were, and it was really obvious in this quiet street just who was drinking to excess.

My dark side came out at 2am and wished them all covid for christmas.

Which was very bad of me.

Well, as it is a gift from me to them, I think both would be generous. Simultaneously.

I am not against people protesting but that's not necessary, preventing a kids cricket game.  I am guessing there will be some discontent within the group that organized the protest over that.

I think a concoction of delta and omicron would be in order.

That's a bit bloody much; when they stuff kids anything, even sport & even the most boring game known to man, that is going too far imo.

Bad enough that we have far more stupid people here than I'd ever thought possible, & bad enough that these idiots appear to not balk at exhibiting that particular brand of stupidity in public, but when they muck up kids playing sport then that is a bridge too far.
Protesting by parading along the streets is annoying but they have the democratic right to protest, something most of us don't want to lose, however ruining a kids cricket game is another level & should be dealt with quite severely. Angry

That seems fair enough to me - in fact I'd say it was quite restrained of you. Angel

One thing was very noticeable about the most recent protest, & that was the carefully printed placards. They've possibly got someone in the business & perhaps also in their group doing them for them.

That voices for freedom group seems a bit out there. Claire Deeks who was formerly involved in the Advance NZ party is involved, a is some one called Libby Johnson of Truly Myrtle knitting designs. While they see themselves as courageous & heroic, most see them very differently.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claire_Deeks

"Deeks was number 3 on the party list for Advance NZ and ran as a candidate at the 2020 New Zealand general election. When campaigning, she claimed that the New Zealand government had abused the Bill of Rights when putting the country into lockdown during COVID-19, said that some of the people who had died during the pandemic in New Zealand had actually tested negative for COVID, and suggested that the complexity of the law around wearing of masks was deliberate, because the "Government was preparing for possible health and safety legal issues if somebody suffered an injury from wearing a mask." [9] Deeks was unsuccessful in her attempt to get into parliament because the Advance NZ party received insufficient party votes, but continued to post on the Advance NZ website.

Deeks, along with Libby Johnson of Truly Myrtle (knitting designer) and Alia Bland of Little Bee (crochet designer), founded this group which claims on their website to be "a non-political organisation focused on protecting New Zealanders' fundamental human rights with a particular focus on freedom of speech, health/medical freedom and all freedoms under attack from an overzealous and oppressive Covid-19 response."

David Fisher, Senior writer for the NZ Herald, wrote in March 2021, that the group helped to distribute a magazine, Real News, that had been drawn together by Advance NZ, Voices for Freedom and two publishers Jonathan Elsen and Katherine Smith, both with connections to The New Zealand Journal of Natural Medicine and Uncensored, magazines with a background of publishing false claims.[13]
A Te Puke doctor, Christine Williams, said the editors should be held to account for the magazine that promoted conspiracy theories about vaccines, Bill Gates, herbal cures and lockdown. University of Auckland professor of medicine Des Gorman said, "in the context of encouraging free and open speech, there is a fine line, and this publication crosses that line...[and]...violates freedom of expression because it is a litany of lies."
