Oscars on Monday

That film I didn't really like, The Power of the Dog is in good shape to pick up the best picture gong with Jane Campion pretty much assured of a directing nod. It's not really your typical "Oscar" film, but it only has to beat the opposition. Would like Coda to win but that might be a bridge too far for the voters. Will Smith and Jessica Chastain looking likely for best actor and actress respectively. Technical awards for Dune no doubt, Drive My Car for best international (i.e. foreign film), Encanto for best animation.

It's been a fairly tepid year for film. Covid with its impact on filming as well as the impact on box office returns will have had an effect on studio output, so you'd hope for a few more must-see films moving forward. 

And that's my Oscars roundup while I boil the jug for a cup of Dilmah.

we had to watch that cowboy thing by jane campion the other night.
it was painful. slow as molasses, hardly any gunplay, it was all pregnant pauses and awkward silence
i may not have understood a good portion of it. so take that into consideration
