When we had the outside of our home painted 10 years ago, and this included the pump shed and garage and rooves, it cost us $15000.  The house hadn't been painted for years and there was an awful lot of prep work to do.  It took our painter a month to do it.  He asked we pay him a bit each week to keep his income rolling through, fair enough we thought so split the $$$ over the month for him.  He was a sole trader
All the extra prep work he did should hold us in good stead for next time. When we shopped around for quotes, they ranged from $2000 (really??? what kind of job would you be doing for that?) to $30000.  We went for the middle quote that seemed fair to us and him.  So yes, it will be costing the owner a small fortune.  In saying that, your rent should have been calculated to include repairs and maintenance.  And besides, it's not your problem
