I'm inclined to say just give the baby blood for pity's sake - he can't help having whacko fruitloop parents. But then, as others have pointed out we have a precedent.
In the past parents have been prevented from allowing their child to die by refusing various procedures.
There's not a  chance in hell that these idiots would 'have kept quiet about the whole thing' - they'd have been yelling as loudly as they could about it & claiming victory.

They are politicizing the whole thing.
It would have been better if they quietly just given them the blood and no one would have noticed.
I dont think this can be compared to blood between race or sexuality anyway, we are talking about a medication here.
While there is not a huge amount of medications that can affect your eligibility to donate, its still a factor on your eligibility, some do require a stand down period, so this fact here is that at least they are acknowledged.
