Interesting; it could possibly work but could also be the thin edge of the wedge to take us to a similar way of doing things to that in America. "Outsourcing to private hospitals" sounds good in  principle. In practice though, its likely to be more difficult.
Surgeons say they're already overworked...

in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)

Yes I read that this morning, Surgeons say they are already working 80 hour weeks and all this noise is just a sign that the government needs to get more doctors and pay them adequately and pay them enough so that they stay.

It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

Not the first time. Past governments have done this, and ACC does it all the time...

What they have failed to say is that it is usually the same surgeons, working in both public and private hospitals - this won't magic surgeons from nowhere...

I had an eye lasered via the public health system some 5 years ago - this was publicly funded in a private hospital, by the same Doctor I saw at public initially, who had also offered to do it for me privately, a couple of weeks faster...
I agree , this will do nothing to increase the number of actual operations without more doctors and surgeons...
