Who wants to see it disappear?
A cashless society means no cash.... Zero!!!┬á It doesnÔÇÖt mean mostly cashless and you can still use a ÔÇÿwee bit of cash here & thereÔÇÖ. Cashless means fully digital, fully traceable, and fully controlled. I think those who support a cashless society arenÔÇÖt fully aware of what they are asking for. A cashless society means:
* Your child canÔÇÖt go & help the local farmer to earn a bit of cash.
* No more cash slipped into the hands of a child from their grandparent when going on holiday.
* No more money in birthday cards.
* No more piggy banks for your child to collect pocket money & to learn about the value of earning.
* No more cash for a rainy day fund or for that something special you have been putting $10 a week away for.
* No more selling bits & pieces from your home that you no longer want/need for a bit of cash in return.
* No more cash gifts from relatives or loved ones.
What a cashless society does guarantee:
* Banks have full control of every single cent you own.
* Every transaction you make is recorded.
* All your movements & actions are traceable.
* Access to your money can be blocked at the click of a button when/if banks need ÔÇÿclarificationÔÇÖ from you which could take weeks, a hundred questions answered & five hundred passwords.
* If your transactions are deemed in any way questionable, by those who create the questions, your money will be frozen, ÔÇÿfor your own goodÔÇÖ.
Forget about cash being dirty. Cash has been around for a very, very long time & it gives you control over how you trade with the world. It gives you independence.
If you are a customer, pay with cash. If you are a shop owner, remove those ridiculous signs that ask people to pay by card. Cash is a legal tender, it is our right to pay with cash. Banks are making it increasingly difficult to lodge cash & that has nothing to do with a virus.
Please stop believing everything you hear on the TV. Almost every single topic in todayÔÇÖs world is tainted with corruption & hidden agendas.┬á Politics & greed is what is wrong with the world; not those who are trying to alert you to reality.
Please pay with cash & please say NO to a cashless society while you still have a choice.

This seems to have been copied from ATMIA, an organisation promoting the interests of the manufacturers of ATMs. Odd. From their web site: "The mission of ATMIA is to promote ATM convenience, growth and usage worldwide; to protect the ATM industry's assets, interests, good name and public trust; and to provide education, best practices, political voice and networking opportunities for member organizations."

They have been talking about this for decades, it may happen eventually but there are always other ways of trading, barter and cryptocurrency for example...
One could potentially set up a cooperative of sorts and use a private currency to facilitate the trades...

There is only one reason they will do it and that is to watch what you do.

"They" actually aren't that interested in what "we" do unless it looks dodgy. "They" don't have enough time to monitor all the people (even the ones already known to be engaging in criminal activity) and "we" would be extremely naive and vain to think that "they" are interested to that degree.
Some of the individual points above are right, but not necessarily problematic. Some are wrong. But overall it's not a conspiracy of "them" versus "us", it's just a change in how society as a whole operates. It inconveniences some to the benefit of others, and we all just need to live with. The demise of cheques has been a major inconvenience to us but we survived and figured out how to operate around it.

It's about wanting to know how you spend and what on. Even harder to get a loan if you eat and drink too much...

Not the world's best idea, imo. But then if it was to happen, it would likely be well down the track rather than in the near future.
And even then, humans will find some way around it.

The bank rules in that sense did go a bit overboard, but one of the big problems we have is people spending frivolously then crying poor. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask borrowers to show that they have some ability to moderate non-essential spending (which they should be doing while saving for the deposit).
The data gathered by the eftpos usage just helps the retailers know what to provide. It's not personal.

So you pay cash to your cleaner? So the cleaner doesn't pay their fair share of tax? But you both still use all the tax-paid benefits that society offers? And expect other tax-payers to pay for it?
That's what "they" quite rightly do want to stop "us" from doing. After having spent a lifetime of paying every dollar of tax I should, I have NO tolerance for the dodgers out there.

Recent news about bitcoin and similar "investments" is that they are a very quick way to lose everything you have. They might be out of the banks' control, but are still subject to the value placed upon them at the time of exchange. You'd only want to spend money you don't mind losing.

I'm not sure if its still going but at one time there was an organised barter system here in which people traded things - someone might mow another's lawn in return for some baking or similar so no money involved.

There's always Bartercard. Or is it only business to Business? I do remember that businesses could have problems with GST if they used it too much - ie the trading is fine until you have to pay your GST, which has to be in money for IRD.
