You can never have enough...
Having missed the tv news for quite a few days (well, it was getting deeply depressing) I checked out the weather forecast after reading about your thunderstorms and find the extended line up of endless rainy days even more depressing than the news.

Tg I bought two bottles of cheap white yesterday, and two extra boxes of my favourite fluffy coffee sachets, and have a clutch of parcels on their way to amuse me. If it wasn't for the mountainous pile of winter type things unearthed from the cupboards that need a quick launder to spruce them up I just might go into hibernation for the foreseeable...

Still, there is always the art cupboard to sort out.

Good morning everyone

Lovely man your Barista sounds like OHH. And free advertising for him too.. I do prefer to see positive feedback but more often than not people are quick to rubbish a service rather than give praise.

We have a local High 5 page on FB when people want to praise local companies etc.

Kiwimade Izzys mum was selling worm wee, a lot of people want it so a nice little reward for taking the time.

Good luck for the appointments today Mica.

My Biggest Caterpillar has wandered off the swan plant branches and is now hanging on my ornamental Bamboo. He is curled up so Im going to take daily photos of his progress. The two others are happily munching away. I put them by the bamboo in the hope they would hang there so it might be quite cool with 3 hanging there.

Off on my own small food hunt today. but Im staying local as I dont need too much. And to be honest Im not really in the mood to do it lol.

Like you OHH the temptation to hunker down and hibernate for a while would be wonderful. But I still have to visit MrP. And Im taking Bobbie back to the optometrist tomorrow as well.

Im looking forward to my weekend off tho. Id like to bake but this stupid thumb is really starting to annoy me. It feels like its getting worse instead of better. Might need more strapping maybe.

Have a fab day everyone

This morning I bought myself another pair of jeans. Size 10; they fit perfectly. It's been a few years since I could fit a size 10, so I was quite surprised.

The assistant was quite right - they are indeed so very, very stretchy that you can indeed go down a size.

Sort of ruins the effect, doesn't it. Smile

I am so not going there.

I may though have to defriend you on account of you are too tiny to safely play with.

I think its hilarious - very tempted to frame them!  Big Grin Big Grin

When the assistant said  that most people could go down a size, I thought - yeah, I bet you say that to all the customers; but I have to admit that she was spot on.
You know what they say; that good things come in small packages. As I was frequently told as I was growing up, & eventually I'd got ever so slightly tired of hearing it, so started replying 'Yes. And poison comes in small bottles'..... Rolleyes
That generally shut them up.

Morning everyone

Yep up bright and early today. Im taking Bobbie to an appointment and then visiting MrP.

Lol I was always told two things. Good things come in Small Packages.. And Only the good die Young

That makes me a Badass Big Girl lol..

Did the food hunt yesterday and managed to stay dry so that was a bonus lol.

Please tell me Im not the only person who thinks if the people had not committed crimes etc in Australia, they wouldn't end up in jail and then being deported away from their families. Its pretty simple isn't it? Stay out of trouble, dont break the laws.

Have a fab day everyone

morning ladies Smile Another wet, soggy day here today.

Size 10! Wow, Lilith lol. Even as a teen I could never fit size 10. It seemed to be one size to far for me.

I disagree agree with you, Popeye, about the 501 detainees. These people have either little or no support here family wise. They were either born in Aussie to kiwi parents or moved there with their parents when very young. In all senses of the word, they are Aussie. And when you look at the crimes these people have committed, many of them go back years and years. Surely if you have done your time, that's it. Especially if they were 30 years ago! And there is something seriously wrong with the Aussie mindset if they think detaining people who have already paid for their crimes (often many moons ago remember) is OK.

Yesterday we were in Rotorua having lunch with MrK's sisters. It was good to catch up and we came home with a supermarket bag full of borrowed books. One of my sisters-in-law is an avid reader and she has lots of our favourite authors. It's going to take ages to work our way through them.

Housework today and then some more embroidery. And I want to do some baking today too. I might bake a carrot cake as I haven't baked one for years. Half can always go in the freezer if it turns out too big.

Happy crafting Smile

Morning all
Blustery and damp today
No thunder storms on the horizon the boy k9s were exhausted yesterday  the thunder coats help but not cure their response

After attending to my emails I am off to collect my overlocker from the sewing machine spa. Might even take the opportunity to call into the gluten free cafe/bakery and treat myself to a  cream and jam filled donut. Cant tell that they are GF yum Big Grin

Will collect DH later this morning he sounded very chipper last night when I spoke to him.
The k9s will have to wait for the weather to improve before they get a walk, otherwise it will be ball throwing on the lawn

Have a good day.

Yes for the ones that have done their time, they should just be released as normal.  I need to read up on it. I thought it was just people who were still doing their time. I didnt realise it was those who have done their time. That makes it wrong for sure

Good morning.

A bit blustery out there with the sun peeking out, but the forecast is saying the day will deteriorate ... looks like washing on the rack today.

Another newborn beanie knitted and sewn last night ... my left over 4ply wool getting used up and will get them to a maternity home soonish.

Catch up day today after having grandies yesterday but first up groceries.

Have a good day.

If a person does not pass the "character test" they can be deported. Here's a brief summary:

Section 501 of the Migration Act 1958 lists a variety of reasons why someone may not pass the character test. Subsection(6) of section 501 has the full list of reasons, but examples include:

because the person has a substantial criminal record
because the person may represent a danger to the Australian community
because the Minister is satisfied the person is not of good character due to their past and present criminal or general conduct.

So this entitles the Australian government to export its social problems to their countries of origin, which then have to deal with the fallout, disruption and inevitable new gang networks.

I guess even tho they have done their time etc.. if they hadn't broken the law in the first place they wouldn't be in the position to be considered for these rules.
Do we have the same set of rules?

No we don't, we are better people than that, though I'd like to see us make a few exceptions. For instance if I'd been queen of the world the Christchurch Mosque mass murderer would have had a choice, a bullet or permanent deportation back to Oz. Let them house and feed him, we certainly shouldn't be bothering...

But then I run out of mercy for folk who kill for pleasure.
Reply
I so agree, OHH. Sometimes I wish we had shot and killed the mass murderer but as MrK points out, if he's alive, we can a) make him suffer by taking everything away from him and b) find out why these fuc*wits do what they do. The trouble with deporting criminals back to their country after conviction is whether the country would follow through with the sentencing. I'm remembering the French Rainbow Warriors who were sent back to France and treated like damed heroes.

Housework is done, can't (won't) strip the bed as there is no way I throwing winter sheets in the drier. MrK has beaten me to the kitchen so the carrot cake will have to wait for a bit. We have a glut of lemons so he is making marmalade. I hope he can find enough jars, I've been pretty ruthless lately and have used a few for the orange marmalade I made the other week. We've given a lot of marmalade away Smile and it seems to have been appreciated.

Time for a cuppa.

Good morning - perfect for kite flying here this morning
The OzzieÔÇÖs offered to take the CHCH murderer - they have a purpose built terrorist establishment- there are 5 in there already who will never see the light of day again - including those responsible for the Lindt cafe massacre - the Ozzie public would stage a revolution if any of the terrorists were released
The reason the 501 policy was introduced 10 years ago was to enable people who were arriving on the people smuggler boats - 50000 of them were allowed to settle and it became increasingly obvious that many of them were criminals who had taken the opportunity to come to Oz and continue their criminal careers to the point that the police came close to losing control of some parts of Sydney .Unfortunately the kiwis who had not taken out citizenship were caught up with the other non citizens - most of the kiwis returning home have drawn attention to themselves by associating with gangs over there they are much harder than we are .Kelvin Davis went over to Christmas Island detention centre prior to the 2017 election and promised them refugee status on their return which meant their families could join them but that didnÔÇÖt happen - you have to wonder if they did get help on returning home they might not head straight into a life of crime .Its a very complex problem but it workdays be a very brave Ozzie PM who made any changes - Albanese promised pre election he wouldnÔÇÖt - change is going to have to be on our side of the ditch
I am off to lunch with our new Iranian kiwis - the parents arrived last weekend - the wife is a crafter so I have been invited to share stew and dumplings and point her in the right direction for supplies

I got a heap of wee parcels this morning from my Trademe frittering over the long weekend, such fun opening them to see what was as described and what might not be. Only one disappointment this week which isn't a bad score considering what I did with the budget! One of the parcels - a piece of linen I want to back a cushion - came wrapped in a very retro pillowcase, pink with screaming purple florals bound with lengths of hot pink ribbon - the seller obviously had a lot of amusement with that one! And useful too, as a friend gave me a hint about machine washing my Skechers, to put them inside a pillowcase to stop them thumping around loose among the towels. So that will be the pink floral's fate in life seeing I'd rather not use one of my white cottons - I may run a drawstring through a channel at the top to make it even more secure, with the pink ribbon perhaps!

I do enjoy Trademe, although it is certainly not the same place it was when the boards were up and running. Not nearly as busy these days either, which makes for some good bargains down in the cheap seats where I lurk...

It isn't really all that impressive though - they're a size 10 in name only, because those particular jeans stretch so much. They're really only suitable for summer so will keep them till then.
I was once a size 8, weird as that seems now.

I definitely agree Kiwimade; those people are torn away from their families & if they appeal the decision to dump them here in NZ then they're sent to Christmas island for months while waiting on the appeal, which can make visits from families near impossible, & kept in fairly horrendous conditions - & that's regardless of crimes having been committed years ago & these people having paid the penalty for that. Punishing people twice (& lets not forget the effect on their families) for the same crime is cruel & vindictive; no govt in an allegedly civilised country should go down that road, especially given that it creates a precedent which at some future point could be used differently against others.

One man was sent here who'd committed no crime but who was an associate of people in one of the gangs.
Imo Australia has it badly wrong in the way they're dealing with people who are in reality Australian made criminals.

And as for the terrorist - no, let him remain alive & here. Let him live long enough to fully comprehend what he did; far worse than death penalty is a long life in prison.

Despite fire weather predictions its quite sunny here just now, not exactly warm but might warm up slightly with luck; apparently there's snow further south. I managed to persuade myself to do the dreaded dusting earlier, & felt so very virtuous I made another strudel for the freezer.

Yes, agreed that TM certainly is not what it was - their traffic numbers must be well down now without the forums.

Have to agree re Trade me.

I generally only use it as a tool for comparing prices.. But haven't brought anything from there for a while..

Although its pretty much for the price of delivery, as you can get so much from overseas and not pay shipping. From Alliexpress etc.

I have had some success this week in selling on there tho. which is cool. Mind you I undercut other listings. Getting what I paid but also downsizing at the same time. Which is the master plan.

Took Bobbie to the optometrist and she didn't appreciate being told to actually wear the glasses and she would get used to them. the whole time in the car she talked about the other optometrist, of which there certainly hasn't been one here for the last 18 years.

To top it off a truck tried to squeeze past me in the one way section in town and took paint off the left hand mirror. Im about to find the company and put in a complaint.

And MrP has lost his bottom teeth. But he's been moaning about them for a while so it wouldn't surprise me if he has stowed them away. As he mentioned claiming on the insurance.. He hardly ever wears them so that wont be happening.

I've told him to try and ignore Bobbies negativity at the moment. cos I wont listen to constant moaning . I dont need it at the mo.

Had time to kill so went and treated myself to another scarf for my denim jacket. Need to give them all a wash to freshen them up and get the Opp shop smell out. Its very strong.

Sounds like an interesting day out popeye!

I remember my Mum 'losing' her teeth in the dementia unit, and I had a tech come in to organise replacement, which was both expensive and an awful ordeal for everyone involved. Only to have that new set disappear within a week...

But other things of hers disappeared too, and I finally realised, after overhearing conversations, that the staff were thieving the best stuff, and confiscating personal stuff to punish stroppy residents. And it was impossible to prove so pointless fighting it. I was very glad when she was moved away from that place, and although it was supposed to be a very good well known establishment my experience was very different from their PR.

It was a very difficult time, which is one of the reasons I so admire your guts and determination.

Thanks OHH

Its certainly been a year of finding out just how bad these places can be and learning what happens there.

I wont be bothering to get him a new set of teeth, he seldom wore them anyway.. But I do suspect he has hidden them .

Bobbie keeps saying she has stuff stolen but she doesn't have anything for anyone to steal.

Im actually very happy to know that I wont end up in a place like that. I can end my life and get away with it. They will just think I'm a silly old bat who forgot my pills..
Mind you sometimes I do think I should be there for a month so the Manager can Really understand how fussy a person can be foodwise lol. But Im not putting my hand up to do that lol.

I have to admit Im looking forward to my weekend off. Other than phone calls I dont visit on the weekends.

Im going to see if I can find where the cottons I kept are hidden away and might add some to the pretty teal/blue scarf I got today. There is a few tassles on it but I think it needs a few more. Either matching or a contrast.

But I need to look in there tomorrow since I still haven't asked the neighbour if he could play God and put some light bulbs in for me lol
