it will only ever be estimates, quite a few countries don't even have reliable processes to account for births and deaths. Now throw in a global pandemic, war, famine etc and you will have lots of souls unaccounted for...
The world would be a perfect place, if it wasn't for the humans.

It is - brutal though that is, there are too many humans on the planet.

Education about overpopulation, better health systems in every country might eventually go some way towards changing that.

If the various religions opposed to changes,  especially around birth control, can be educated to the point where they can comprehend the damage being done by our species then it might become possible to change things.
If it isn't too late.

There is 7.9 Billion people in the world today, for the area of the planet that is not a huge number, yes there are unhospitable places and yes people do seem to congregate and populate toward the main cities so maybe educating them to spread out father afield may be the answer, build more towns in remote areas without trying to destroy natural surroundings, but its all a worry.  Huh

Yep, thinking of our descendants & the possible future they may be facing can be the stuff of nightmares - but there's always hope & we are an ingenious species as well as a destructive one.
We may yet come up with the means & the widespread desire to heal the planet.

We can thank our lucky stars that we don't live in China, they've had it really tough.

And still are.

"Unlike Shanghai, Beijing has yet to require that all its residents remain at home to contain the spread of COVID-19. Nevertheless, many people in its Chaoyang district and elsewhere are preparing for that possibility.

On Wednesday, city officials closed 60 subway stations, more than 10% of Beijing's vast system. They did not say when service would be resumed, according to ABC News.

Beijing, a city of 21 million people, has been on high alert for the spread of COVID-19, as restaurants and bars pivot to takeout, gyms close and schools suspend classes indefinitely, according to CNBC.

People who live in "controlled" areas, neighborhoods where cases have been discovered, have been told to stay in the city, and all residents must test for the virus three times throughout the week, according to ABC."

But lets not forget that the entire country did reasonably well during lockdown, too.

its a tough time to be a chinaman.
not that it was all beer and skittles prior to covid.
at least the air quality has improved.

it lays to rest any argument/conspiracy re it being released on purpose imo.
why would one shit in ones own nest so badly?
to hear some argue it, people dont die of covid, they die with covid, that its relatively harmless.
uninformed backwards thinkers may downplay it all they like, the severity and impact of this virus has been catastrophic to some places.

Looking at other countries & how they've dealt with Covid  is enough to make us all appreciate our good luck to be living here.

there are many who cannot/will not acknowledge this, blinded by their hatred of 'the left'
credit where its due, they (Labour) did ok with covid
which is reassuring because theyve bungled or shelved everything else theyve touched in two terms of fiscal ineptitude and broken promises.

I think they could have done better with regard to Kiwis needing to come home, especially those with dying family members; getting those people home & the MIQ conditions could have been better.
But that said, its a completely new situation for all govts around the world & its not very likely that no mistakes would have been made, regardless of which lot was in govt.

have to protect the tree, not the fruit.
