Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has officially declared open the Transmission Gully motorway, while the road has been named Te Ara Nui o Te Rangihaeata.

Can you imagine if there was an accident and you dialed 111 and you were asked where it was, shit that would be a mouthful to get out in a hurry.

I know its a cultural thing but shit how about naming something that is inline with European culture for a change?

which group is the lesser villain? Britain tried using PPPs to build hospitals - they ended up with expensive buildings not fit for purpose - taxpayers ripped off again.

PPPs are like that old story about the scorpion and the fox crossing the river. Trusting anything or anyone to go against their nature is simply dumb. Private enterprise is about profit. Public enterprise is about something else entirely. The two can never be good bedfellows. Or cross a river without each putting themself in danger of drowning...

As a social enterprise, with tax payer's money funding? No one will get what they want...

Its probably just going to end up being called transmission gully, or the gully road, or perhaps the 100 year road.

'your waka is a donkey' I smell BS. Maori wouldn't have even known what a donkey was in pre-European times so obviously wouldn't have had a word for them in their language.

they probly had them back in Hawaiiki for harvesting yams and such
there was never going to be enough room in a waka for a donkey.
