obviously the dude had issues during covid and was quite clearly on the side of less caution with more freedoms. Thankfully at the time, we had sensible people at the helm who could ignore the noise and do what was right - and as a consequence saved a few thousand lives or more...

We should be counting our blessings that Jacinda's government was in charge of keeping the wolf from NZ's door rather than the likes of the numpties that are in the top seats presently. If National and their big business buddies were running the COVID response we would most likely to have had a clusterfuck of similar proportions to that of the the UK and US, and a lot more dead Kiwis. And those now criticising Jacinda would be bitching about a totally different reality.

A lot of it I think has to do with the thinking that kindness equals weakness. That putting lives as a priority in an economy was a mistake. I wonder though how that might change if the lives were of immediate value to her critics...

My niece - type 1 diabetic with complications, went into labour with her first child during lockdown. Had a seriously difficult time of it, with zero family support, surrounded by masked strangers.
Two friends lost family members to covid, and couldn't bury them.
My bff with terminal pancreatic cancer did chemo alone.
Everyone has stories of that time. But lots of us are grateful because we survived despite being in that most vulnerable group. As we watched the containers fill up with corpses in New York.

That is the situation that prompted the Labour government as COVID loomed. It was an unprecedented situation and tough decisions were made for the greater good. Griping about the issues faced by those adversely affected by that decision is essentially placing personal circumstances above the national good which is in essence selfishness, and directing hate and vitriol at the 'captain' of that ship is just targeting that person as a scapegoat for the misfortune of those adversely affected.

it's really not easy to make a decision when you're up against something that you've never experienced before, especially something as huge and risky as a pandemic. Erring on the side of caution is the sane thing to do, in my opinion.
The responses to Jacinda's handling of the situation are quite telling - it clearly shows who values money over human life, who is morally corrupt and full of greed, and who actually has empathy.
