Dai Henwood honoured - Lilith7 - 02-06-2025 Dai Henwood & others have been honoured in the King's birthday honours list. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/562810/king-s-birthday-honours-dai-henwood-tim-southee-and-jude-dobson-among-those-recognised RE: Dai Henwood honoured - heisenberg - 02-06-2025 pity they couldnÔÇÖt find a funny NZ comedian RE: Dai Henwood honoured - king1 - 02-06-2025 there has been plenty of decent comedians from NZ over the years... RE: Dai Henwood honoured - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-06-2025 I think it takes a certain level of courage to deal with a terminal diagnosis and treatment as a tv special. Before that I pretty much ignored him. But that special was a good watch. Authentic. There's that word again. RE: Dai Henwood honoured - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-06-2025 Education is a benefit of our media age. For better and worse... Just as my Victorian grandfather predicted in his diary, opining on the advent of television... RE: Dai Henwood honoured - king1 - 03-06-2025 Mcphail and Gadsby for one, Paul Ego, Rhys Darby, Te Radar, Oscar Knightley, Tape Face. Pamela Stephenson was good in her day... RE: Dai Henwood honoured - king1 - 03-06-2025 Taika Waititi probaby rates a mention as well, some of his movies are hilarious RE: Dai Henwood honoured - Oh_hunnihunni - 03-06-2025 He is right though, Billy T was something special. His name is the first when I think of comedians... I think it was his lack of ego. One of our funniest and most intelligent comedians, lost to Aussie but still very much enjoyed here. RE: Dai Henwood honoured - Oh_hunnihunni - 03-06-2025 Oh yes, the inimitiable Fred Dagg. Loved him. And not just because my maternal grandmother was a Dagg. RE: Dai Henwood honoured - Olive - 03-06-2025 John Clarke's lasting contribution was Clarke & Dawe, the series of political satires which were so prescient that they come to mind every time I┬á hear a press conference by the present PM or many of his Ministers. ┬á Todd McLay's presentation and delivery are a dead ringer for Clarke as PM. ┬á The most famous sketch is "The Front Fell Off" but all of them were hilarious. RE: Dai Henwood honoured - Lilith7 - 03-06-2025 Yes John Clarke was brilliant. We have no lack of comedians here & they sometimes turn up on that Aussie programme, Thank God You're Here which has just finished. I've seen Urzila Carlson, Guy Montgomery & Mel Bracewell on that so far. RE: Dai Henwood honoured - Oh_hunnihunni - 03-06-2025 Oscar is pretty funny. Same lack of ego. We New Zealanders do enjoy a bit of self deprecating humour. |
