Coal is just dead trees, burning it puts more back into the carbon cycle to help speed up more tree growth.
Co2 is a nutrient that plants love.

So is any fossil fuel but rampantly burning energy stored for millions of years at the rate we are is more than our environment can safely cope with without protective mechanisms inherent in our atmosphere and oceans behaving in ways that threatens the planet's ecosystems is not going to end well for us. That's exactly why CO2 enriched hothouses have warning signs for personnel that work in those environments. What's good for plants is not necessarily good for us.
