RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 05-05-2022

morning ladies Smile Thank you for the birthday wishes yesterday, we had a great day with family.

Today, it's popeye's birthday Big Grin So... Happy happy birthday, popeye Smile I hope you have a fab day today and get to do whatever, whenever, you want.

This morning I have some plants to plant thanks to one of my sisters-in-law. We all often swap bits and pieces from our gardens.

Ahh buggar, Lilith re the covid in your family. Hopefully they will all recover quickly.

Aren't we lucky we have our pets growing older with us. Senior pets are a real treasure (except when they puke on the carpet.) Our first cat lived to 17 and had to be PTS due to kidney failure. We've also had a cat with cancer of the throat who also had to be PTS.

The Furry One caught a starling yesterday. Heaven knows how he did that but it is in the compost bin adding to the goodness we will spread around the garden. He's still eyeing up the five rabbits living under the garden shed. And boy those rabbits are getting fatter. MrK thinks he's waiting until he has more than a mouthful of rabbit to eat.

The ground mist is lifting and the sun is out. Time to get cracking and start the day.

Happy crafting Smile

We are lucky indeed. It has taken a long time for this cat and me to bond properly. She was a rescue, had had a family, then been stolen, then escaped or abandoned and had lived feral for several years before being returned (microchip) to her first home. By then her kittens had grown and the bond broken, and she hated sharing the house, and was causing enormous problems. She was going to be put down if I didn't take her, which I did on the understanding I was not able to pay big vet bills - so her future wasn't set in stone. But she has been a good companion, if a trial at times, being such a determined bossy personality, we are too much alike to fit easily.

But nowadays we have rubbed the corners off each other and I will miss her funny ways when the time comes. She rules the roost around here too in the village. The other cats are terrified of her, despite the fact she is tiny, has only one tooth and is well into her teen years now. Boy she can put on a turn of speed if they cross her invisible lines, it is hilarious to watch, even their owners find it amusing the way she bosses them around...

Good morning everyone

Thank you for the birthday wishes Kiwimade.

I was going to go and see MrP today but since he barely spoke yesterday and I have more pressing things that need to be done Ive decided to stay home.

I got another 2 hours done yesterday on the lawn. Im slow but at least I could still bend my fingers this time lol

My plan is to do another hour this morning, then come in when its time to Ring MrP and Il put the jam on the stove while I do that and have lunch.. Then go out and do another hour or two.. Being a stubborn Taurean I wont give in.. and I got notice of a house inspection yesterday so I really have to do it. Thank goodness the house is easily taken care of with only me making the mess lol.

Our last 2 cats only got to 8 years old. Millie ended up with diabetes and just crashed and it was too late to bring her back.. She saved my life... And Bob we thought he was just being a Grumpy Bum when we got Missy but it turned out he had a massive tumour in his bowel. So we lost both within a year.

A friend had a cat who was 21 when she died peacefully in her sleep. Her name was Captain and she certainly was.. She ruled the roof and whether you were human or feline or the Big tough dogs they had, You obeyed her lol.

There's a black cat that spends a lot of its time in our yard , the family have a new dog and I think the cat just avoids him by staying here.
I've called him Padre as he has a white collar.

I had to pop next door last night like a cheeky neighbour to beg a couple of lemons as I forgot to get some, for the Jam. Their lemon tree isnt doing well but I got a couple of limes instead.. Strawberry jam and its been soaking overnight with the sugar and juice.

Have a fab day everyone...

Ive lost some of my catterpillars

Morning all
Another nice day ahead

Happy birthday Popeye

Our furry family members bring us alot of pleasure and companionship so they are forgiven when they puke on the mat.

DGS asked to go with DH when he walked the dogs yesterday, we then ended up with DD, DGD,DS and DGS for morning tea and a few snacks for lunch. No sewing yesterday spent afternoon sorting out paperwork my least fav job.

Volunteer day today, I am cleaning the oven as I type love the pyrolytic function.

Got 2 dog toys to repair today head off and stuffing replacement  required  they have certainly been ^deaded^

Have a good day

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 05-05-2022

I'm having a sit-down, went a over t in the garden tripping over the nasty concrete fill edging. I think I have proven my point with MrK it needs to go. Tomorrow I will have a few more bruises to add to the collection but will be fine. Who ever thought gardening was 'light work' needs to rethink lol (points at her doctor.) But the new plants are in and the Christmas lily bulbs lifted and replanted with a doozy of a marker post. Slowly the plants that will need tying up are having old fence posts dug in for them instead of a skinny stick or old fence standard.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 05-05-2022

Happy birthday Popeye, hope its a good one.

Mowed the back lawn earlier, & as usual the dog had to go straight out & inspect it. Apparently it meets her standards.

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 05-05-2022

Good morning ... just.

A lovely day here.

Oh dear KM ... the perils of gardening  Rolleyes

OHH your feline friend sure sounds a character ... my boy is a burmese and he definitely rules around here ... though possibly not in the cat world anymore - the last week or so he has added to the notches in his ear (always the same ear, lol)!

Happy birthday Popeye ... enjoy your day.

Lol lilith, useful to have chief inspector dog by your side.

I have some planting to do this afternoon and a birthday beanie to knit for a 1 yo.

Have a good day.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 05-05-2022

Burmese are wonderful creatures, Coco is Burmese Rex cross. Rexes are pathologically neurotic, so I blame her genes for all her bad habits...

And mine for mine, lol...

Many happies birthday girls! Enjoy!

I think I feel a jigsaw puzzle week coming on. My bones suggest a weather change...

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 05-05-2022

Thank you everyone...

I was busy weed eating and the neighbour came over, told me off for not asking for help, with a big smile on his face. He is 90 later in the year. And even tho I know riding on a ride on mower isn't as hard as using a normal one I didn't want to ask a man of his age if he could help.

But he said he doesn't have enough things to keep him busy. And his whole life has been one of helping others.

So it is all down. Just a few spots of edging for me to do. And the clouds are coming in so Im not going out now.

The jam is in the jars. It has a nice tart backnote from the Lime and if MrP doesn't like it,.. tough lol.. he will eat it tho lol.

Ohh Kiwimade there are ways of pushing the point without tripping over... rest those bones and sit with your stitching a while.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 06-05-2022

morning ladies Smile More sunshine today Smile

It sounds like you had a productive birthday, popeye. What a lovely man your neighbour is.

I read this morning there was a ram raid in the town over from us and they caught one of the little buggars. Big Grin

Our cats have always been moggies but the last two were semi-feral brother and sister. Our rescued labby had just come to live with us and she had finished weaning a litter of pups. Those kittens didn't stand a chance with her mothering lol. They were licked from nose to tail and picked up and carried all over the house. I remember them being little spitfires lol but she kept at it. They all settled down and were great friends and rivals for years.

Our son is enjoying his new job, you can certainly hear the relief in his voice when we talk on the phone. Now he can make plans and start living. Finally have both kids settled (for now lol.)

Housework for me today, not that there is much to do. I might even feel inspired to pull another room apart and 'spring' clean. That depends on how yesterday's bruises react but there aren't as many as I thought. Could be the extra 'padding' I have Tongue And I plan to stitch today.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 06-05-2022

I am thinking about cleaning the inside of the windows today. The insides are letting the outsides down after my all my earlier efforts, so maybe the Karcher and the step ladder will get pulled out again. And then there is that bit of hand sewing I need to do to finish off the edges of the curtains that I put up just before covid hit. I cheated and just replaced the outer layer of the secondhand professionally made lot I scored for next to nothing when I moved in here ten years ago. The original thick cream cord was looking a little old so I found a gorgeous Jacobean style patterned heavy weight to replace it with and had a friend extend it for me with some stiff cream calico, and I just whip stitched it to the original linings - to keep the flannel and outer plain calico intact. They are wonderful insulators, but I do wish placing the curtain tracks closer to the ceiling had been in vogue ten years ago, the way they sit on the window frame still irritates me. Too bad, I am not up to changing that these days.

I do love these curtains though, so pretty...

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 06-05-2022

Morning everyone

A chilly start but it will be a glorious day.

The Wax eyes are here early today. They are flittering around in the trees on our border. I think the long grass may have put alot of birds off.

It is soo good to look out the ranch slider and not see grass higher than my knees.

Oddly Im more creaky, well plain sore this morning than I have been after the other days of weed eating. Must have slept in one position too long I think. so the hottie is on my back.

Very pretty curtains OHH.. There are no curtains here, well werent. I had a lot of black fabric and very quickly made two curtains for the ranch slider.. There are those horrible vertical blinds. But I think theres only 3 windows that have a full set that actually turn properly too. And the lounge ones dont.
In a couple of previous places we lived in I did some for french doors in blues and yellow and then the next house were ranch sliders so I used a perfectly matching sheet to put strips down each side to widen them.

Off to see MrP this morning and get some groceries. Not that I need much thankfully. I spoilt myself and popped up and got a roast beef sammie for my tea last night. It was Beautiful.

I might sit and "Paint" today and try out my new pen, its bigger and should be alot easier to hold. So should be good for my fingers.

Have a fab Day everyone

Calico is one of my Fave fabrics OHH... Maybe its something from a previous life. But its just so nice to work with.. A b*tch wo wash and iron tho lol

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 06-05-2022

Half of my pleasure in the curtains comes from the fact the original lot including hardware came from a local Navy house for $10 via Trademe, and the pretty fabric was $30 again, a leftovers bargain from Trademe.

My Scottish genes do love a bargain...

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 06-05-2022

Sitting in the Dr's waiting room yesterday with everyone masked up - & I sneezed! I didn't half get a few funny looks. Smile

Turns out that I have got arthritis as I suspected, hands mainly. And given my usual stunning luck my Dr had just received the very latest update/report on arthritis which found that the very best treatment for it is - exercise!
Luckily I'd already worked that one out, since its better when I move around but if I'd been hoping for some wonder drug or painkiller I was well & truly out of luck. The joys of getting older. Yay.

Managed to make a card yesterday for youngest grandson's up coming 21st later this month...the third attempt isn't quite as bad as the earlier attempts, I'm out of practice at drawing bulls.
Lovely curtains Hunni, & an excellent bargain to boot - what could be better.

Its youngest great granddaughter's birthday - her second, so no doubt she'll turn up to collect her loot a bit later.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 06-05-2022

Watch your joints for little bulges. Exercise is fine, so long as they stay warm and it is all in moderation. The arthritis in mine has caused cysts where the fluid has built up in the joints and leaked out into the surrounding tissue - especially in my most active fingers. My one finger typing is fast, but the nail is a mess because the overuse has caused problems with the cyst pressuring the nail bed and malforming the nail. I am vain about my hands too, so even worse, lol.

But am I going to give up keying my tablet? Am I heck...

My fingerless mittens are a godsend in the cooler months. And very easy to knit. Great exercise...

That doesn't sound much fun - & I've noticed using the mouse to paint in photoshop tends to hurt when I do it for too long, but there's not a chance in hell that I'll give that up, either. My typing is dire & takes ages but I won't be giving that up - however did we manage before the internet.... Big Grin Big Grin

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 07-05-2022

morning ladies. We were woken this morning to the sound of gunshots. Yep, it's duck shooting season again.

I loveeee your curtain fabric, OHH. Just gorgeous. There is something special about Jacobean styles.

dammm about the arthritis, Lilith. Pity there is no wonder drug to compliment the exercise.

By the time I finished housework yesterday, I was pretty stiff and sore so I had a gentle afternoon. I stitched for a while but found sitting for too long didn't help with my stiffness. Today doesn't feel much better but moving about will help.

It's meant to rain Monday (yayyyyyyy lol) so today I want to weed for a bit and maybe start the pruning down the roadside of the fence line. The main road side of the fence needs a tidy up but the weeds I sprayed there seem to be there for keeps. But the rubbish passersby throw out needs to be picked up. It really bugs the heck out of me how people throw their rubbish out their car windows. I wish I could find who does it and deliver it back to their back yards. I had a bottle just miss me a few years ago while out in the garden thanks to some idiot.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 07-05-2022

Good morning.

Day's looking promising.

Lazy beings KM, I sympathize ... my OH spent ages filling up bags before mowing the roadside when we were on SH27. Imagine if we emptied them onto each of those backyards, giving them a turn each time!

Off to Hamilton shortly, a day of family catchup.

Have a great day.
