90.2, I dream of a target like that, lol. Sez she having just demolished a hot cross bun for breakfast. My Mum got down to under 60kgs in care, so perhaps I just need to wait for the inevitable. Still, the bun was lovely...

And we are still waiting for the gale force winds and floods. But I am grateful for the steady rain, no doubt the broad beans appreciate it. I shall go down and give them a pep talk later this morning. Meanwhile I have tea, and a new Patricia Cornwell to keep me quiet, so no complaints from this little bit of paradise...

Morning all
We have wind and are expecting blasts of 90k

I would rather stay home but DH has optometrist check in city so will drive him in rather than him take the train.

DD picked me up yesterday as she wanted to check out some fabric at the Fabric Warehouse, she found a lovely digitally printed cotton and I got a knit to make DIL a preggy tshirt smart enough for work.

A medical appt for me in the afternoon so that was my day done.
Knitted another sock last night so DGD will have socks to match her cardi.

Our k9s ha ent asked to go for a walk this morning they must know something we dont Big Grin

Goodness Popeye how could they forget to feed not one but 2 of their residents. Quite concerning.

The new cat tower arrived late yesterday afternoon so I had fun putting it together. The feline is  very suspicious of it will put some treats on it later today.

Must move

Have a good day

MrK has left for his flu jab so the computer is mine for a little bit lol.

Omg popeye, what the heck is that resthome thinking? Definelty get Age Concern involved and maybe contact the Ombudsman again. I hope you are still recording these incidents so you have evidence to back your statements.

I've been working on my falcon this morning. What a difference a frame makes. I have a free hand to use my awl to help lay my stitches so no twisting of thread and funny looking stitches. The Furry One poked his nose under my arm to see what was happening then snuggled up. Wet dog... sigh lol. But he did chase a mouse that was marching up the back door ramp heading for inside. Good guard doggy!

Looks like the suns trying to come out but the wind is back. I think we have gotten off lightly.

Cuppas finished, won't be buying the Healtheries mixed fruit tea again as it's a bit sweet for our taste.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 13-04-2022

I agree with the others Popeye, & think that contacting age concern might be a good move - its quite worrying that they forgot to feed people.

Haven't done much apart from mowing front lawn.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 14-04-2022

morning ladies Smile Sunshine today, hopefully the East Coast has some too to help with the cleanup.

Things are pretty quiet here, the garden is slowing down and the heavy work is done for now. It could be time to turn my attention to the indoor things. I could start stripping the wallpaper in our bedroom, it will be the last room to be painted. I also have a pile of stuff to go to the op shop and recycling center so could get that done today. And MrK will have a script to pick up too.

We saw on the news the T Rex dinosaur being put together by Auckland museum staff. A while back I saw the story of the T Rex online and suggested to our daughter she come and stay and we go up to Auckland to see it. Our grandson is dinosaur mad. So the next school holiday break they will come and stay and we will do the 'Auckland thing', visit the zoo, Kelly Tarltons, the museum and so on. Our son wants to come to the museum too, so it will be a real family thing. We are really looking forward to July <3 and are hoping this will be quite the adventure for the grandies.

I will set some time aside for the falcon, it's been a real fuss finding the right colours for his head. Some days it looks brown, others grey, in the photo. I've decided to blend both colours Big Grin Big Grin

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 14-04-2022

Good morning all.

Looking like a lovely day ahead.

Have just seen Peter the T-Rex on Breakfast ... he will be a major drawcard to Auckland, I'm sure!

Popeye, I hope they are hauled up over the missing meals ... absolutely not good enough. Continue to be the squeaky wheel!

More planning/prep for family arrival on the cards plus get a surprise bag of dahlia bulbs planted into pots. It will be exciting to see what eventuates. One of my hibiscus cuttings can also be planted (the other died).

Have a good day.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 14-04-2022

Sunny with wind cool and not expecting warm temps today.

The city is certainly busier and the carparks are almost full so looks like more people going into work at the office.

Volunteer day today and need to get a few food supplies like milk and vege

Hope those in the path of the storm stayed dry.

Have a good day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-04-2022

Good morning everyone

Cool this morning and Missy didn't want to let me out of bed. lol

Yesterday I was very delicate in the morning. But I managed to contain myself. I asked to see the head nurse about MrPs weightloss. She just kept saying she would talk to the Dr. I said its not his body doing it, its the lack of food.

I stayed until she came to. BUT

They brought lunch in. Honestly it looked worse than Missy's cat food. Those who have me on fb can see it.. I took a Photo of Bobbies plate with the gravy on it and MrPs without.. I asked what it was.. cos square bits of meat with something else square didn't look like anything.. Was told it was Chicken... Neither were going to eat it.. The vege's were good.

As I was leaving I noticed the lady opposite hadn't eaten it. She said it was horrible. I stopped at the table in the dining room and asked the 3 ladies sitting there if they liked it and all said no.. One lady said she would go to the kitchen if she could push herself down there... I offered to take her. So off we went to the kitchen. On the way the lady told me she had been complaining about the food for 4 yes 4 years.

Got to the kitchen and the "chef " and I use that word very loosely came over and asked the lady what was wrong.. The lady said Im sorry but I cannot eat this it is horrible and no one else is enjoying it.. I asked what it was..... turns out it was pork and apple casserole... The "chef" said they cook healthy nutritious meals. I said if they were my Husband would not have lost 20 kilos in less than 11 months... her responce... Well he Probably needed to.

We went to talk to the manager who came out into the hall. The lady said to Margaret she couldn't and wouldn't eat the food and she was getting sick of complaining. I showed the Manager the photos and asked would she eat it. She said yes she would. Another lady came up word gets around fast there. She said to Margaret Im sorry Margaret I could only eat to spoons it was making me feel sick. I dont want to complain cos I dont want to be kicked out.

I said to Margaret Most of Riversides meals went into the pig bucket. She walked away. I took the lady back and Margaret came up to me and said All Bayiew's people ate it. I said I wasn't talking about Bayview. This is the wing with the worst dementia people on who wouldn't know what they were eating.

I called soo many people yesterday and got help of who else to ring. Its not under a DHB so some places cant help. but while typing this the Ministry of health Advocate just rang me and has given me another number to ring who can do a check on the place..

I also emailed our local MP.

I put photos on FB in local groups and had others contact me who have people in there that hate the food as well..

In the space of Hours I went from thinking I wasn't strong enough to fight this, but I Need to and Have to.

My next step if I cant get help is TV or as many papers as I can get it into.

MrP still wants to come home , he hates all this. But I said your there cos you need to be, but also cos we will fight for all the others who have no voice.

Ironically they are meant to be having roast beef today. Time will tell.

Sorry for the long post but it was my day. It shows that we all need to be careful on the homes that we chose for our loved ones.

If I was younger and fitter Id love to start a small rest home. A real home. not a place that takes your money and gives you shit to eat.

Have a fab day everyone.. Im going to ring this new place

RE: You can never have enough... - SueDonim - 14-04-2022

Hi Popeye. I feel for you.

If the home has residents who receive public funding (ie not paying the whole fee themselves) then there is DHB input. I'm not sure how much interest they have in day to day running, but the homes are audited. This link might be a good place to start for information https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/life-stages/health-older-people/long-term-residential-care/residential-care-questions-and-answers. It links out to other places that might be helpful. It will all change after July though. I have no idea where resthomes will fit into the new structure.

Good luck.

Fine day here after wind and drizzle yesterday. I did some garden work in anticipation of rain so the timing worked out. The big yellow Justicia has overcome the adjacent dark pink and pale pink ones next to it. I've had a plan for ages to move the pink ones and finally moved the dark pink. The pale pink may have succumbed but there is one stem in nearly the right place that might be it. I've left it for now as it now has some more space in situ so will be better left to get a bit stronger if it will. Fingers crossed.

I lifted the last beans - yellow dwarf - the third crop of the season. Early on we were getting 2-3 meals worth a day (most excess frozen, with some also to neighbours). Lately it was down to one meal every third day or so with no new flowers. So that's it for the year. We're now just waiting for the last crop of corn to mature and the new broccoli, leeks and spinach are coming along. Feijoas are in full swing, especially after the wind, and luckily we didn't have any damage this time. The last storm knocked the 3m Mammoth tree so it's now supported and looks like it will be OK. The large Unique tree lost a major limb in the storm before that. We've left it down through the fruit season then will need to remove the split limb and work out the best pruning for the future. It's coppicing well from the main trunk so we should have plenty of options. Apollo is the only unscathed tree this autumn and has huge fruit this year. Most of them go for eating. Most of the other trees' fruit go for freezing.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 14-04-2022

Bloody well done Popeye! Smile
Excellent move, getting others involved & I'm sure that's going to make all the difference in the long term; the more complaints, the more chance of getting changes.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing which Fair go do, but it may be worth contacting them for ideas on who else you could get involved who might be able to help. The food sounds absolutely dire & is clearly inedible for anyone of sound mind. Perhaps, next time there are lots of complaints take some of the food to the manager who claims she'd eat it herself & offer it to her to eat - with several witnesses.
Good luck with it. Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-04-2022

Just had the dr ring.

Shes not concerned about his weightloss. And pretty much said its not the rest homes fault.

Im soo wild.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 14-04-2022

The reality is the noisier you are, the more likely you are to get an improvement. Phoning the local paper is my last resort on things like this. The media love a good drama especially if it involves vulnerable people - it is how we got our shared laundry machines put up on plinths so we could use them, after the corporate said no. They hate the poor publicity.

And I know too how much stress and worry it causes, fighting the battles for those who can't, so hugs to you popeye, they and you deserve better.

Yep I think Popeye's on the right track to get some action, & hope there will be changes.

I think it may have been you who was having a slight problem getting socks on & off? I've been having a similar struggle lately so went a- googling & found this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51cevYhfdms

Checked a few places & the price was refused immediately by my Scots ancestry; eye watering, some of them so I thought I'd check TM. Similar prices on some of them, some not so bad & eventually I found one going for a little under $20,including postage. I bought it then & there so hope it works. If it does the trick, will let you know & you might find one at a reasonable price from the same trader, lostadam I think it is.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-04-2022

Ive now heard from our Local MPs assistant. And from the Ministry of Health again.

I told the MOH that they were taking photos of MrPs food now.. I said to her that without David being in the photo it could be staged. She said it wont help them.

I will tell MrP tonight to make sure he is not in any photos.

Judging by the fact that they have had the DR in, and wanting photos they are running scared and know Im going further.

My Mother told me once, She would never pick a fight with me. Cos she would never win... I have my teeth in the Bone and I will not give in...
This is not only about MrP its all of them. those who are too scared to complain.

I also contacted Fair Go and Breakfast

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 14-04-2022

Oh popeye, I am so proud to know you.

When my Mum was in her first rest home there were major problems, her things were stolen, she was smacked, and her false teeth and glasses were removed or 'lost'. Staff laughed at the dementia patients and bullied them, and it was an education, and a learning curve discovering what I could do to help her, and what I couldn't do. It is an incredibly difficult part of life and it still haunts me a bit. Look after yourself, it can be very debilitating, fighting these battles.

About the sock thingamie, it works fine, if you have ankles. I only have one that works so that other foot is a fixed right angle, no pointing toes anymore. That's what makes socks a challenge, and why the bigger more stretchy ones work so well, especially on carpet, and with a bit of help from the hook on my long shoe horn.

Wore my new boots yesterday and today, with a couple of pairs of Ali's beautiful socks, very comfy, and well worth the twenty minutes it takes to get organised, lol. I love Autumn...

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 14-04-2022

Excellent news Popeye, well done! I bet your Mum would be really proud. Smile I hope it gets the result you need, & soon. You've done so well.

Bugger about socks Hunni - trying to think what might work for the ankle which won't work so well & all I could come up with was a mental image of a sock with two tiny alligator clips one on each side, attached to sticks or something so you could pull it up.

Oh wow, good for you, Popeye! I'd like to think I would be strong enough to do the same but not sure of that!
I hope they interview all the residents to back you up on it.
It's a wonderful thing you are doing, so good luck and hope for a good outcome for all the residents.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-04-2022

It is simply ignorance to be unable to provide appealing and nutritious food on a budget, despite the recent inflation. They need to employ a better qualified cook or retrain the one they have because there is no excuse for poor food, especially at the rates these places charge to provide care for their residents. Popeye's butt kicking will be most appreciated by those who cannot do it themselves.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 15-04-2022

morning ladiesSmile And Happy Easter to you all Smile

You go girl! Popeye, shout it from the rooftops if you have too. I was thinking if you want to take it to the media, maybe Patrick (Paddy) Gower on TV3 might be interested. He loves a good story and not afraid to say it as it is. Another avenue could be The Project on TV3, although they tend to be a bit more light hearted with their stories. I can't believe they thought they were eating 'maybe chicken' and it was pork with apple. There is quite a difference (well, supposed to be) in taste and texture!

I love that gadget for putting on socks, Lilith. Maybe you could show someone, OHH and they could make something similar tailored to your needs? Am glad the socks and boots were comfy! I have this mental pic of this mad woman in these crazy coloured clothes madly scooting along on her scooter lol.

Yesterday was such a stunning day so I suggested to MrK we pack up the thermos and take the Furry One to the beach and have our morning tea cuppa there. So we ended up at Mt Maunganui, sitting in the sun having a cuppa lol. I walked along the beach with the Furry One while MrK sat in the sun and he loved it. A change of pace and place was just what we all needed. His extension lead broke and omg I thought he was going to do a runner. He has painted on ears and no recall so is always on the lead. But he just stood there and came when called! Could not believe it! We have a spare lead in the car luckily so used that. So all this praising him when he stays has finally paid dividends. Only taken him 11 years lol.

Housework for me today and then I'm going to work on my falcon. I know.. I say this every day but if I keep saying it, I'll eventually get more done.

Stay safe, especially if you are on the road over the next few days.

happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-04-2022

Lol, colourful for sure, crazy definitely, but always classy, this woman! Have to be because the beloved scoot is 'Champagne' colourway. No boring red or blue for me - I have to live up to that when tearing around the neighbourhood scaring small dogs and their lead holders...
