Who'd have thought a bunch of obscure NZ tokens and medals in an overseas auction would fetch such a high price? The silver award medal looks like M1882/25, which Tony prices at $850 awarded.  The lot would be worth the hammer price for that item alone. RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 16-07-2022 yes it is the 1882 exhibition medal in silver. I did recognise it, but they usually don't sell for anywhere near that (you can usually divide Tony's prices by 2 to get market value!). Also a couple of nice Milner Thompson tokens, the second one not so common. I just thought I might get a bargain, it being an auction and that the only NZ lot that I noticed. But obviously there were at least 2 wealthy morons who also noticed it (yes I think I might be a bit bitter!). I'll probably get outbid on the Una too! RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 17-07-2022 always seems to be the same pair of tossers bidding these up! https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/antiques-collectables/coins/new-zealand-decimal/collections/listing/3676982181?bof=IUf7YlFi wonder what they intend to do with them all? RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 17-07-2022 proof? https://www.ebay.com/itm/225075499760?hash=item34678b92f0:g:tI4AAOSwN35i0SRT bargain? RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 18-07-2022 it does look quite nice so could be a proof. Although the sellers other coins look a bit dodgy (think there might be some artificial toning going on!). Bargain price if it is a proof (maybe worth the risk?). But then maybe too good to be true? Then there's this! https://www.ebay.com/itm/225045382414?hash=item3465c0050e:g:nnAAAOSw-6lirbLM just received an offer from the seller, they'll let me have it for 165USD. I think the frying-pan-and-chemicals combination got a bit out of hand with that one. I knew a collector in the US who reckoned he had the chemical mixtures to generate any kind of toning you'd like.  Probably long gone now, and I never thought at the time to ask him for the recipes :-) RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 27-07-2022 don't forget to tune in for the Una auction! RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 22-08-2022 proof?? https://auctions.mowbraycollectables.com/lots/view/1-6AZE0G/nz-predecimal-coins-florin-1935-proof-km4-light-tone-well-struck-au RE: TM Coin Club Thread - translateltd - 25-08-2022 It's got that matte look to it, though I don't like what looks like a bag mark behind the king's eye, and some weakness/wear to the rim+rim beads just in front of the king's robe and at round 6:00 on the ref. |
