whats yucky? some of these starving waifs have probably never eaten a vegetable , should they be fed kfc or mcd's

it's food, I don't need to have had one to make a determination about the value proposition and cost. 
There is no point in screwing down prices to stupid levels as all that will happen is providers will go belly up and/or the government will have to start paying more to save face...  and probably quietly bury any mention of it anywhere, much like what will happen with the ferry costings
