I bet this one comes back to haunt them; people who read tend to have ideas....

Unbelievably stupid. How they can possibly justify this is beyond belief; it would only take one or two children to die as a result for it to affect their popularity - & perhaps even votes.

And in the middle of a whooping cough outbreak fgs. Angry Dodgy

HYEFU: Government books to stay deep in deficit until 2029
Posted by: king1 - 17-12-2024, 03:20 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (10)

Anyone care to guess what " Treasury unwinding overly optimistic assumptions" really means - sounds like bollocks to me...

and for the first time EVER they have chosen not to blame the previous government?

Quote:Finance Minister Nicola Willis said the forecasts showed the economic downturn started sooner and was deeper than had been previously thought

She said the worsening of the financial backdrop was not a result of government decisions.
"It has been driven largely by Treasury unwinding overly optimistic assumptions about the state of the economy."

  Coromandel shootings

Apparently this is the alleged offender in the shootings that happened on the 309 Road last week. I immediately suspected it may have been retribution against poachers but this puts a whole different perspective on the event.

Fewer than half eligible families get payment
Posted by: Lilith7 - 17-12-2024, 11:02 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - No Replies

Interesting ploy - require people to pay for it first, then be reimbursed. Child poverty action group's Professor Jenny Ritchie says it looks very like a deliberate attempt to prevent people accessing what they're entitled to.

The childcare subsidy.

The Facts about family violence and homelessness under Labour
Posted by: Jan - 16-12-2024, 06:56 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (4)

National are receiving criticism regarding their adjustments to labours 25 year plan to reduce family violence and homelessness
Stats from the census
2023 People living in severely deprived housing was up 2.1% so thatÔÇÖs an extra 13,000 people despite Labour spending billions on emergency housing and claiming┬á
June 2023 Police statistics show family violence reports were up 49% since 2017 - thatÔÇÖs despite LabourÔÇÖs claim their 1.9 billion 25 year plan they introduced in 2020 was providing wrap around services to our most vulnerable families┬á
And letÔÇÖs not forget these two who in the last two months were victims of that 25 year plan to return at risk children to their whanau

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/whakatane-...UQJ7LRL6M/
┬áIf any politician ignores the real stats of these kids or the official stats and donÔÇÖt back Karen Schwab but instead uses our most vulnerable as a political football would be unbelievable- the plan has flaws and they need to be fixed before more kids get taken out of very happy foster homes and returned to violent families and killed

Blatantly callous - govt target child poverty.
Posted by: Lilith7 - 16-12-2024, 05:16 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - No Replies

Callous greed based idiocy. These are not people who actually care about the welfare of children, or anyone living in poverty. Angry

Their target is 1% - yep, ONE % - over TEN years. Yes that wasn't a misprint, TEN years.

Their own idiocy in scrapping the Aotea survey means they're unable to measure effectively.
