  Boundary issues and Surveyor
Posted by: Underwhelmed - 22-11-2021, 03:37 PM - Forum: Real estate - Replies (3)

So, the budding hoarder next door has built an ugly shed, cobbled together from rusting cast offs, close to the boundary line.  The shed posts are about 1 metre from the fence but the rusted iron roof is closer. The local Council took a look and told me that yes, it's 70cm from the shared boundary but I will need to get a registered survey to prove where the boundary line is. I thought the Council would have this info? Can I look at the Council info for free or do I need to pay for a LIM or for the Council to retrieve the info? Worse case scenario (since the hoarder is likely to extend his hoarding shack closer to us in the future) how much does a registered surveyor cost?

  Groundswell Protests
Posted by: reigns - 22-11-2021, 02:23 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (23)

As a non-farmer, I read their position statement on their website and there are a few things I can sympathise with as well as some stuff I could support if I understood it better.

I saw that some supporters of the movement have had to step away, either briefly or permanently, over concerns about it being hijacked by anti-vaxx and anti-govt protesters and I can definitely understand that - I would be reluctant to voice support for the valid and reasonable points of protest Groundswell has if it continued to both harbour and encourage fringe protesters that are less interested in farmers and more interested in pushing COVID conspiracy, pro Trump, and anti-govt (like Ardern being a communist bitch, for example) views.

It was good to see the organisers distance themselves and condemn certain protest slogans and placards displayed at the rally a couple of months ago but I also can't help but think that just because some of those farmers agreed to put such views to one side, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't believe them.

If anything, I think these protests have been really interesting both from seeing how the organisers manage the PR alongside an already tense NZ political climate, and how their own supporters have tried to control, reclaim and/or reject things that don't seem aligned with the original intent.

I'm still glad they got to have their say though, and that the protests were pretty peaceful. They conducted themselves far better than those Destiny Church "Freedom" fuckwits, that's for sure.

Watched the trailer. Bugger.

Another brilliant sci fi book/series turned into yet another action movie. Because the world so needs yet another action movie.
And they all have American accents on Dune, too - who knew. Rolleyes

Facebook account hacked twice in one day!
Posted by: nzoomed - 21-11-2021, 08:23 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (5)

I had a client last week with a facebook account they could not get access into for no apparent reason.
Said invalid email, but was always the one they used.
Turns out the account was hacked and being used for SPAM.
I managed to reset the password only through clicking on the link in the email that said the accounts email address had been changed and went through the usual "secure my account" procedure and reset the password and remove the hackers email and add back the original email account, phone number, etc.

The account had a fairly secure password and this password was not used on any other online accounts they had.
Anyway a few hours later that same day I get another call from them saying the email was invalid again.
Turns out the same hackers email was back on the account again and their email removed.

Went back through the same procedure, i have no idea how the account got hacked a second time, but im wondering if it sent the hacker the same notification email saying that the address was changed that let them revert the changes?

Anyway, this time I enabled 2FA, I could not find any malware on their devices which was only a macbook and an android phone.

Really bizarre, ive seen the odd hacked facebook account, but never seen one get compromised twice before.

  Buying new sheets
Posted by: crafters_corner - 21-11-2021, 07:33 PM - Forum: Gardening & DIY - Replies (6)

Which is the best for a 'no iron' sheet set?

I have two pairs.
One pair I got from Spotlight that are brilliant. Wash and put away.
The other pair, I got from Briscoes. Paid more for them, good quality, but they look ugly unironed, and I'm buggered if I'm going to iron them, and it's only me and the kitty to please, so we deal with unironed wrinkled sheets. I hate that.

  The Never-ending Political Poll Thread

Get a weird enjoyment out of political polls, even if they're utterly pointless. Tonight's poll makes bad reading for "Crushed" Collins and good reading for Seymour the dancer.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/1270248...ntensifies

A particularly nasty display of sub human behaviour is finding its way into our culture.
The ignorant as pigshit individuals doing it are cowards and weaklngs.
For these mental giants so fragile is their grasp of reality and so limited their IQ that it isnt just enough to just not take the shot.
No sir, not these skid marks have taken it upon themselves to stop others from doing it and aiding in getting it done with death threats and violence..
Cuckolded by right wing narcissists and internet 'doctors' these slack jawed buffoons are spreading a virus far worse than Covid. They are spreading an insidious hateful dissention. their bitter invective and baseless 'anti' rhetoric dangerous and harmful. They are cultivating a culture of extremes.
i sincerely hope these parasites practice what they preach, and remain unvaccinated.
its bad enough these people be so brain dead arrogant to know more than the medical community, its that they need to stoke their own fears in search of acceptance from others by way of violence and abuse.
I should feel pity for them but dont.

They disCust me.

jolly good, as you were

  The very bossy Ms CoCo
Posted by: Oh_hunnihunni - 21-11-2021, 07:00 AM - Forum: Pets & animals - Replies (8)

Ms CoCo is a rescue Burmese Rex cross who has lived an interesting life and learned some very useful ways of getting her own way in the process. She is very bossy for a little scrap of a thing, and noisy with it. It took us a while to become sort of friends because she found me difficult to train, and I found her a poor replacement for her predecessor, a Siamese lady by the name of Pansy, who was an angel in chocolate point fur.

Ms CoCo does not Play Well With Others, so she has taken over the village and only has to fix the other two cats who live here with a narrow eyed stare to have them slinking off back to where they came from. She is quite likely to march into their kitchens to check out food bowls and the wimps simply go for higher ground and hope to remain undetected. And fast? For an elderly lady the beast can put on a fine turn of speed if any of them think running is a good idea. She does enjoy a good chase.

Unfortunately though, Ms CoCo has some health issues of the messy kind. She has IBS, and her fur - being rex - lacks guard hair, so her incessant grooming causes hairballs, and with IBS that is Not a Good Thing. But we deal with the unfortunate results, and with a bit of vet support and the occasional course of steroids she is still enjoying being Queen of all she surveys.

Last night though, she and I had words. For some reason known only to herself, she took exception to being kept inside after the doors closed at 9pm. Her third dinner was insufficent joy, and my going to bed at 10pm was simply unacceptable behaviour. So she started throwing things around, bouncing off bits of me that do not respond well to such treatment, yelling in my ear, and generally being an attention seeking brat.

So, she spent the rest of the night  - from 2am I might add, curled up on a nice thick folded towel on the stool in the bathroom with the door firmly closed, and peace and quiet was restored. The yelling resumed at 7am, so she was released from custody, had her first breakfast of the day, and has now gone out to do her first patrol of the estate.

I might just have won this round.

Big Grin
