Hope that everyone's enjoying/avoiding the summery heat!

You know it's a bit different when Invercargill gets to 32 degrees.

Currently looking after someone else's cat, and she's just dropped off a dead mouse outside the front door.

I've been accepted!

  Force close PC
Posted by: Oldfellah - 02-01-2022, 09:33 AM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (8)

Is there a way that when you press the shutdown icon in the menu that windows will close no matter if you have anything open. e.g. I use notepad a fair bit and its usually open in the task bar, I forget that its open and go to log off my PC then my PC will go through the close down stages and so I wander off, when I come to use it again I notice that it hasn't logged off and on the screen there is a notice saying notepad is open do I want to close it and it hasn't shut down Grrrr
I know how to force close programs that wont close before I log off, thats not the problem, I just want to log off and it closes.

How do you keep cool when going to bed on these warm nights?
I tend to sleep on top of the blankets and have the window open for a bit of air
then I wake up about 4.am bloody freezing lol

I dont use Trademe a lot but I think they have really stuffed up their website, it used to be so easy to navigate around but now its terrible, I suppose thats what you get when you sell it to an overseas company.

  New Year Honours
Posted by: yousnoozeyoulose - 31-12-2021, 08:40 AM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (8)

See that Lisa Carrington & Sophie Pascoe are now Dames.

Never been keen on active sportspeople getting the top honours. Why can't they wait until they retire? Didn't use to happen as much, but then the Poms started handing them out to pretty much anyone who won a gold medal and it's become de rigueur.

Athletics great Peter Snell didn't get knighted until 2007. He was in his late 60s. Pascoe is 28.

Pretty sure I can hear crickets.

I can't even see a thread that has over 100 comments - most have well under 50.

Then there appears to be any 2 main people posting in most threads.

  How to install Windows 10?
Posted by: TygerTung - 30-12-2021, 04:29 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (6)

I bought a new SSD for my wife's laptop for Christmas and would like to install Windows 10 on it as it previously had Windows 10.

But there doesn't seem to be any way to do it! I download the Windows media creation tool and create a USB, the computer won't boot into it.

I create an .iso using the tool and it won't boot and burn it to the USB using Rufus and it won't boot. I download the .iso and create a USB with Rufus and it won't boot?

Why is Windows 10 impossible to install? It was easy in older versions.

Linux USB boots and installs fine. So the computer is still working.

It is a Acer A315-21
