This could be a possibility for the future; apparently cheaper than light rail & they might work for all our cities .
https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/1285916...d-for-city
"The Government dumped a short-lived plan for a $785 million cycling and walking bridge, and its agency is weighing up alternatives, including dedicated ferries and buses.
While a new idea in New Zealand for urban transport, Doppelmayr has built big systems in South American cities, with a 31km network in La Paz, Bolivia, carrying more than 265,000 passengers a day.
Doppelmayr calls the technology ÔÇ£ropewaysÔÇØ, and there are differing systems, from smaller vehicles, to 78-passenger cars used in a Portland system, to a 200-seat double-decker in a Vietnamese theme park.
ÔÇ£We are generally one-third the cost of light rail, one-tenth the cost of going underground, and we have a modular design which means that construction projects are very short in comparison,ÔÇØ said Garreth Hayman, the general manager of Doppelmayr Lifts NZ Ltd.
The proposed cross-harbour line could be built with 2-3 large pylons between the stations."

Consumer NZ petition
https://campaigns.consumer.org.nz/supermarkets
"With more and more New Zealanders struggling with the rising cost of groceries, the major supermarkets' excessive profits are a slap in the face.
We're calling on Minister David Clark to act now to create more competition, make profits fair and lower grocery prices for New Zealanders.
We need your support to make this happen. ThereÔÇÖs power in numbers and we need to convince the Government to take action.
Sign our petition and share with your family and friends to #stopthesuperprofits."
I've signed & shared this one.

A small victory for those who worked at Gloriavale when they were kids. With luck this will be just the first step in ending people including children, being exploited there & perhaps may eventually end the Gloriavale cult.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/1285919...court-case
"Former Gloriavale members say they are ÔÇ£ecstaticÔÇØ over the Employment CourtÔÇÖs ruling that they were employees.
Two of the three former workers who brought the case, Daniel Pilgrim and Hosea Courage, spoke to media outside ChristchurchÔÇÖs justice precinct after Chief Judge Christina InglisÔÇÖ judgment was released on Tuesday.
Pilgrim said it was ÔÇ£overwhelmingÔÇØ that they were ÔÇ£finally being heardÔÇØ, and the decision would have ÔÇ£ramifications for a lot of peopleÔÇØ.
Courage said the ÔÇ£exploitationÔÇØ in Gloriavale ÔÇ£may not be able to be stopped unless it is closed downÔÇØ.
The former members ÔÇô Hosea Courage, Levi Courage and Pilgrim ÔÇô who were born in Gloriavale,┬ádescribed beginning work in the businesses from the age of 6.
During a hearing in February, they said they were hit with implements such as rods, food was withheld, and they were publicly shamed if they failed to work."

Those barbaric bastards are at it again. Ignorance & arrogance can be a deadly combination. Imo this type of intrusive control is nothing short of evil.
If it was up to me, those men in every country which insists on this would themselves be made subject to precisely the same controlling conditions now imposed on women for at least 3 years, while women are given the freedoms men there now enjoy.
Perhaps Afghanistan & America are not so very different.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/5/8/...ghan-women
The Taliban has issued yet another decree imposing further restrictions on Afghan women, and criminalising their clothing.
While the Taliban have always imposed restrictions to govern the bodies of Afghan women, the decree is the first for this regime where criminal punishment is assigned for violation of the dress code for women.
ÔÇ£If a woman is caught without a hijab, her mahram (a male guardian) will be warned. The second time, the guardian will be summoned [by Taliban officials], and after repeated summons, her guardian will be imprisoned for three days,ÔÇØ according to the statement.
Akif Muhajir, a spokesman for the ministry, said that government employees who violate the hijab rule will be fired.
And male guardians found guilty of repeated offences ÔÇ£will be sent to the court for further punishmentÔÇØ, he said.
She evaded arrest during a Taliban crackdown on female protestors in February. Later, Khamosh confronted Taliban leaders at a conference in Norway, demanding that they release her fellow female protestors held in Kabul.
ÔÇ£Twenty years [of gains made by Afghan women] is not insignificant progress to lose overnight. We won this on our own might, fighting the patriarchal society, and no one can remove us from the community.ÔÇØ
The activists also said they had predicted the current developments in Afghanistan, and placed equal blame on the international community for not recognising the urgency of the situation."

Came across this really interesting article about the differences in the  brain of young males. Its hardly surprising that they do daft things.
Worth reading the whole article.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/1285025...to-trouble
ÔÇ£I had his friends carry him inside the house and thought ÔÇÿthat must have been a powerful messageÔÇÖ. It was for the girls, but the boys went back to doing the same stupid s...ÔÇØ
Neuroscientist┬áNathan Wallis┬ásays boysÔÇÖ brains are encouraging them to do just that. While all adolescent brains shut down the frontal cortex, the part that deals with decisions and consequences, in boys that tends to manifest in risk-taking.
ÔÇ£We think thatÔÇÖs a bad thing because it leads to car accidents and stuff but on the other side it leads to innovation and creativity.ÔÇØ
But couple that risk-taking with the fact male brains reach maturity between the ages of 22 and 32, while for females it's between the ages of 18 and 24, and itÔÇÖs no wonder we see them stuffing up all over the place.
Andrew Hopgood puts it a bit differently, though the sentiment is the same.
ÔÇ£Teenagers are literally not all there. That frontal cortex gives us self-discipline and if youÔÇÖre not taught it as a youngster, because your frontal cortex doesnÔÇÖt start developing until your late teens, youÔÇÖre in trouble.ÔÇØ
Walker has been NZÔÇÖs principal youth court judge since 2016 and is quick to point out that although the number of young men he sees in court outweighs that of girls, he doesnÔÇÖt see them as more problematic.
ÔÇ£ThereÔÇÖs a different pathway into their offending and a different pathway out is often required. I donÔÇÖt think we do very well in giving gender-specific programmes.ÔÇØ

I would like to have the internet fibre box (ont?) moved.
It shouldnÔÇÖt involve any additional cable as I would like it very close to entry point of cable to house.┬á
Who should I get to do this ?
