The idiot Tamaki called out by The warehouse
Posted by: Lilith7 - 09-06-2023, 06:59 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (11)

That fool of a man claimed that The warehouse is selling 'puberty blockers' What a nasty bit of work he is. Dodgy

https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/nation...-retailer/

"Brian Tamaki has been called out on social media for his claims The Warehouse is selling puberty blockers on the shelves in New Zealand.
A livestream of the speech shows Tamaki saying the ÔÇ£transgender agenda must be stoppedÔÇØ.
He called it the ÔÇØmost dangerous, political, radical movement to actually desocialise, deconstruct us socially, and basically cause our country to lose generations of kids to pure perversionÔÇØ.
ÔÇ£We will legislate against the whole gay pride movement, who have now infiltrated the politics of this country, theyÔÇÖve infiltrated the police force, theyÔÇÖve infiltrated businesses, theyÔÇÖve infiltrated our banks, theyÔÇÖve infiltrated our companies, to the point now that The Warehouse is actually selling puberty blockers on the shelves,ÔÇØ he claimed.

ÔÇ£I feel a protest coming on. We need to go to every Warehouse in this country or stop buying their products or do a total, what do they call it? Boycott. Boycott Warehouse."
ÔÇ£The state of New Zealanders, they probably wonÔÇÖt come out. ThatÔÇÖs why the countryÔÇÖs like this, cause you let it happen. YouÔÇÖve got to stop and help us, please. Please, save our nation.ÔÇØ
Twitter user Kelvin Morgan posted a clip of the speech to social media, referring to it as a ÔÇ£hate campaignÔÇØ and saying Tamaki was ÔÇ£declaring war on the LGBTQ+ communityÔÇØ.
The Warehouse NZ responded to the tweet with disbelief.
ÔÇ£Really??ÔÇØ read The WarehouseÔÇÖs response.

ÔÇ£Sorry everyone, there are no prescription medicines sold at The Warehouse! Stop spreading your awful disinformation Brian, hate has no place in New Zealand. Xoxo The Warehouse.ÔÇØ

Rod Stewart to bugger off back to Blighty, citing 'toxic culture'
Posted by: Lilith7 - 09-06-2023, 03:46 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (5)

Can't say I blame him given what's happening in America lately.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/ce...ic-culture

"Rock icon Rod Stewart┬áis leaving the ÔÇ£toxicÔÇØ lifestyle of the US and settling back down in the UK, itÔÇÖs been reported.
The Maggie May singer has put his European-style Beverly Hills mansion on the market for a US$70 million (NZ$115m) as he prepares for the move.
Stewart has grown tired of what he sees as the ÔÇ£toxicÔÇØ culture in Los Angeles where there is ÔÇ£no privacy,ÔÇØ the Daily Mail reported from sources"

Why is there such an abundance of teenage pornography video clips appearing on Facebook's Reels and Short Videos?

Secondly, how can I stop this crap from appearing when I open Facebook?

Claims UFO's recovered in the USA
Posted by: nzoomed - 09-06-2023, 02:20 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (2)

Im usually quite sceptical when it comes to this kind of thing, but these claims are quite fascinating.
A bit co-incidental given that in recent years the pentagon has declassified a bit of stuff on UFO's and NASA has a panel working on investigating them right now.

  Soup
Posted by: yousnoozeyoulose - 09-06-2023, 01:51 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Was finishing off an amazon.com.au order, and added some Watties soup to get free shipping. $2.75 for a can vs $3.50 for the same thing at Countdown on special ($4.80 when it's not).

The soup is made in NZ, so the Amazon soup has had two trips over the Tasman Sea, gets delivered to my door, and it's still 20% cheaper.

Something's a little bit broken, isn't it?

  Help Learning Tablet
Posted by: piroska - 09-06-2023, 10:14 AM - Forum: PC World Chat - Replies (29)

Aged mum wants another go at learning her tablet.
We have (both) tried before, we got her an Android one. This time I though brothers Ipad might be better, the screen is bigger for one thing and her eyesight is rubbish now.

So, any suggestions who/where?

I tried Seniornet here and my god, what a mission. Woman one, once I finally tracked down a number says Oh they don't have a website any more and she's retired.
Email x@clear.net.nz
Er...yeah.

They do have a website, in fact 2. One is terrible and was last updated in 2009, it goes on about Vista etc and courses in MS Office.
So Neighbourly, that led me to another number, left a message and got a call, give my email.

Then got an email, they say fill out application, pay money, and what tablet is it?
I say she has android but we're going with ipad, then I get more or less an argument on how it has a different O/s (No kidding) and I should use the android etc etc.
I point out the issue is sight and get told make text bigger.
It seems there is an Android tutor, Ipad is in the too hard basket.

Then I get a txt saying they couldn't forward me the application forms cause my email address bounced.
Yet I was emailed the first time? And in any case they were making a typo in that address.
So I've gone off them.

I have booked her into the library in 2 weeks, this is a half hr group session.

But any other ideas where she can get basic How To Use a Tablet, using the fingers, what icons are and how to say get onto news sites, shops. Not specific program, no social media, no email.

Napier area.
And no I don't want to DIY, I have done. Out of patience now.

Why do they pronounce it "The Hoerukee Golf"?
Posted by: Roscoe - 08-06-2023, 08:41 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (12)

I have been in Auckland since 1964, nearly 60 years and in all that time the name of the gulf has always been pronounced as it is written - The howraki gulf, but TVNZ, in particular, call it The Hoerukee Golf.

Firstly I was taught at school that the maoris had no written language so the colonists wrote it down for them and they wrote it as they heard it so if they heard "hoerukee" why did they write "Hauraki"? But is there really a correct way to pronounce maori? That may not be the case as I also learnt at school that there were different dialects all over the country. So who decides which dialect is the "correct" dialect?

Secondly, TVNZ and other radio and tv announcers don't seem to know the difference between gulf and golf and usually pronounce gulf as golf.

And when talking pronunciation, it's surprising how many people say "pronounciation." The word is pronounced as it is written.

There are also another two words that people don't know the difference between and they are woman and women. It is surprising how many people pronounce the two words the same - woman and woman, whereas women is pronounced wimmen.

Unfortunately, people seem to be taking on the American pronunciation of many words as well as the American spelling. Let's face it, the Americans have their own brand of English as we do but we seem to be losing our unique Kiwi brand of English and many are pronouncing and spelling the American way. Our ancestors came mainly from the UK and brought their particular dialect with them, but these days the American way seems to be influencing the way many people speak which is a pity really. Personally I am a Kiwi and I have no desire to become an American.

My never-ending fascination with NZ Post
Posted by: yousnoozeyoulose - 08-06-2023, 08:29 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (11)

Slightly less sneaky this year, announcing the cost of a letter was going up to $2 (buy your Kiwistamps now folks...)

However... just got an email announcing of a few more undisclosed changes for July 1.

"No more prepaid tracked bags. NZ Post is changing to a bag only range.  You will purchase bags and then postage tickets separately for each bag size, either a tracked ticket or a courier ticket up to 3kg.  The 5kg tickets will continue at new prices for parcels over 3kg.  Bag and ticket combined will cost more than the current rates.

70 mm small parcel tickets will no longer be available. The lower cost small parcel tickets (up to 70mm thick) will no longer be available so price increases for these customers will be higher."

You'll be able to use your own bags (which has always been the case), but the majority of people posting parcels in the shop will just pick up a bag there, so that's a sneaky price rise on the cards IF the info is correct.

Fun times.
