SSD Prices
Posted by: king1 - 11-08-2023, 07:00 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (10)

Hasn't the price of them come down markedly of late?

Take a 500GB Samsung EVO 870 sata

 • a year or so ago it would be something like 90 -100 odd dollars...
 • last time I bought some month or so ago were around $75 I think it was
 • today around $50...
NVME drives have probably slowed the demand for 2.5" SATAs

Wondering if Samsung might be struggling a bit of late...  closing down their kiosks in NZ I heard, a new business only portal for buying direct, and now slashing prices on SSDs.

Anyone used the Netac SSDs? Dove Electronics have them and are /were quite a bit cheaper than the Samsung SSDs...

I have always preferred the Samsungs, never let me down yet at least

Oh dear - Gloriavale heads not happy.

They claim they didn't get a fair hearing fgs.  They're going to the appeal court because they claim the women workers are really 'volunteers.'

As if they have any choice in the matter - having been brainwashed from birth, they're extremely unlikely to be able to refuse to take part in working.

"The leaders have gone to the Appeal Court to ask for leave to appeal the Employment CourtÔÇÖs decision to recognise former Gloriavale women as employees and not as volunteers.

The decision meant the women had rights under employment law, including minimum working conditions and pay.
The leaders did not appeal a similar finding in an earlier case brought by three former Gloriavale men who were found to be employees when they worked in the communityÔÇÖs commercial businesses from the age of 6.

The leadersÔÇÖ application claims the Employment Court misdirected itself on the meaning of employee.
It also claims the court conducted the trial in a manner that breached natural justice, with the judge ÔÇ£failing to recuse herself, in circumstances that gave rise to a risk of apparent biasÔÇØ and admitting evidence that was prejudicial and irrelevant.
It said the Court of Appeal should grant leave to appeal because the judgment was likely to affect the rights and interests of many other community members who lived and worked in similar circumstances, including other communal and religious groups.

The womenÔÇÖs lawyer, Brian Henry, said the leaders had a right to seek leave to appeal.
ÔÇ£They didnÔÇÖt appeal the boysÔÇÖ case. This time they have decided to appeal the girlsÔÇÖ case.
ÔÇ£We will work through the process and I will be seeking an early hearing because it has huge ramifications for a lot of people, particularly the young girls inside Gloriavale,ÔÇØ he said."

Bad news for Chippy from the Hutt

Now tied as preferred PM with Luxon.  Disaster for Labour as the second of the major polls places them under 30%.  And unlike 2017 there is no lipstick to be had to put on this pig.

Hoping that NZFirst number is just a glitch like the TPM number last poll from this company.

  Wildfires on Maui
Posted by: Lilith7 - 10-08-2023, 03:11 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - No Replies

The wild fires around the world seem to be continuing, now its Hawaii.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-66451821

"Six people have died and more have been injured by wildfires sweeping the Hawaiian island of Maui, officials say.
Thousands are without power or cell phone service due to fires that are being fuelled by winds from a nearby hurricane in the Pacific Ocean.
Several blazes are also burning on the Big Island, also known as Hawaii island, a neighbouring island to Maui.

Officials say search and rescue efforts are still ongoing. But they warn that the death toll may rise.
Authorities have evacuated neighbourhoods, closed roads, and opened shelters to host thousands of evacuees.
An emergency order has been signed discouraging people from coming to Maui, which is a popular tourist destination.

There were also at least 20 injuries, including a firefighter who suffered smoke inhalation. Three patients are in critical condition.
He warned the total number of fatalities could rise as emergency responders conduct search and rescue operations as well as evacuations.
That fire is one of several in Hawaii fuelled by strong winds by Hurricane Dora hundreds of miles offshore, low humidity and dry air, according to the National Weather Service's Honolulu office.
Local officials have said that the winds have complicated efforts to use helicopters for firefighting operations."

Oh jaysus! Just heard someone use the term 'merch'!

Apparently it is now far too difficult to pronounce more than one syllable, so merchandise has gone the way of probably (prolly) & definitely (defnly or even defly) so who knows what the language might sound like in 50 or so years..... Rolleyes
