From the Bastards R' Us govt.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/512...abour-says
"Labour says the government's move to narrow disability support funding criteria is "callous", and breaks a promise not to cut frontline services.
The government argues the amount of funding has not been cut - just what it can be spent on.
Whaikaha, the Ministry for Disabled People, unveiled changes on Monday to purchasing rules for disabled people's equipment and modifications supports and services.
This meant things that "would be considered something that every citizen has to pay for" would not be eligible, among a range of other restrictions.
The ministry said the changes - which took effect on the same day they were announced - did not reduce the amount of funding allocated to disabled people, and only made clear what could be purchased.
Labour's Disability Issues spokesperson Priyanca Radhakrishnan said the announcement was very unclear, but it was a cut.
"This is a cut to frontline services, let's be very clear about that," she said.
"This is support services that disabled people and their carers rely on ... it is narrowing the criteria to the funding to such an extent that parents who've contacted me say they won't be able to access anything through it. That's a cut."
She said the move flew in the face of the ethos of a 20-year programme that had pushed for greater flexibility for disabled people around the use of funding.
"This is unacceptable. This is taking flexibility and choice away from disabled people and their carers, and there is a lot of anger out there about the fact that there was no consultation or engagement around this. It came out really suddenly through a facebook post, I understand, yesterday - and it was implemented as of yesterday.
"The word that some parents have used that I completely agree with, is 'callous'."
"This whole conversation about the Enabling Good Lives appropach and the shift towards more flexiblity started 20 years ago ... successive governments have been implementing parts of that, we had committed to extending the support ... we were going to extend that to two more [sites] and extend it further.
"I've heard the comment that this is taking us back 20 years to the start of that, and I worry that it is."

Oh joy - what delights await..
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/w...ADECZDG4Y/
"New Zealand First leader and Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters is promising to bring ÔÇ£steelÔÇØ to the Government as it faces tough economic times.
Hundreds of people have gathered to hear New Zealand First leader Winston PetersÔÇÖ State of the Nation address today at the Palmerston North conference centre.
There was a small protest outside the conference centre where Peters gave his speech.
There were about 20 Free Palestine protestors gathered. One used a megaphone to push their message as Peters entered the premises.
He didnÔÇÖt say anything to the protestors, except to look at them and shake his head.
During his address, Peters referenced the protesters as the ÔÇ£group outside saying ÔÇÿWinston go homeÔÇÖÔÇØ. On the Israel-Hamas conflict, he said the Government had ÔÇ£done our bestÔÇØ.
Peters said NZ FirstÔÇÖs absence from Parliament during the 2020-2023 term was the chief reason why the country had gone downhill."
Oh, of course it was Winnie!
"Without the handbrake, Labour cared more about feelings than the duty to competently govern our country.ÔÇØ
Peters railed against the media, once again claiming he wasnÔÇÖt covered during the election campaign.
He said the country couldnÔÇÖt be fixed until its problems were acknowledged. He claimed Labour had left a ÔÇ£barrage of broken promisesÔÇØ, citing a ÔÇ£crumbling, underfunded health systemÔÇØ.
On education, Peters spoke of the ÔÇ£staggeringÔÇØ number of classrooms New Zealand was lacking and the levels of truancy.
Peters talked of the ÔÇ£implosion on the leftÔÇØ, a reference to the Green Party launching an investigation into MP Darleen Tana, whose husbandÔÇÖs business has been accused of migrant exploitation.
He referenced Tana not by name but as the person who ÔÇ£had the moko on her chinÔÇØ.
Peters criticised the recent high levels of immigration, saying there had been no proper planning by the previous Government for the number of migrants it wanted to bring in after Covid-19.
Peters said there was no greater expert on LabourÔÇÖs lack of humility or understanding of democracy than he.
Such modesty Winnie...
He grouped Labour, the Greens and Te P─üti M─üori together, saying they were competing to see ÔÇ£who can be most culturally wokeÔÇØ. Peters said that when MPs from those parties were in the media, they were ÔÇ£always over-gesturing like an Italian waiterÔÇØ, which received a lot of laughs from the crowd."
